Chapter 271 Think More When Faced with Problems
Dermot seemed to recognize John on the side. Although he hadn't interacted with him before, he had investigated John's stepmother in the past to help Evelyn, so he had some understanding of the boy as well.
It wasn't a solution for the two of them to continue like this, so Dermot spoke up. "Evey, let's not rush. Let's sit down and talk."
After saying that, he waved for a waiter to come over and arranged a quiet private room for them.
John didn't want to follow, but under Evelyn's gaze, he had no choice.
Once inside the private room, the three of them sat down. After Dermot ordered some dishes, he looked at John and said, "Tell us, what is the reason for dropping out of school?"
Dermot and Evelyn both looked at him, and John sighed helplessly before finally revealing the reason behind everything.
After his stepmother went to prison, Jeff believed it was because of him, so he became very hostile towards John. It eventually escalated to the point where he refused to provide him with tuition and living expenses, leaving John with no choice but to drop out of school and work.
"You're only sixteen years old, do you really want to work like this for the rest of your life?" Evelyn was angry, but she also understood his difficulties, so she restrained herself from getting angry.
John shook his head, "I don't want to, but I have no other choice."
As a teenager in his early teens, without any source of income, he couldn't even afford the basic expenses for meals while studying. How could he continue his education like this?
"You're considered child labor at this age, would the boss of this shop even hire you?" Dermot expressed his doubts, as it seemed unlikely that any employer would make such a mistake.
Upon hearing this, John seemed a bit flustered, "I...I lied about my age."
Such restaurants generally don't check too strictly, lying about age and finding an excuse like losing an ID card, hardly anyone would question its authenticity.
"Go back to school. You don't have to worry about tuition and living expenses," Evelyn looked at him. Though angry, she also felt sorry for him.
John bit his lip. He didn't agree.
The reason he didn't reach out to Evelyn was because he didn't want to cause her trouble, he always felt superfluous and didn't want to bother anyone.
Now, although Evelyn actively offered to support his education, John still wasn't very inclined towards the idea. He was afraid of owing Evelyn too much and not being able to repay her.
"Do you really want to work in this shop for the rest of your life?" Evelyn couldn't help but get angry when he didn't answer.
Dermot quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, I understand his thoughts."

Dermot took out a business card and wrote a phone number on it, handing it to John, "This is the person in charge of our company's charity program. Call him, and he will cover all your future expenses for studying."
"Of course, there are conditions as well. Once you start earning money after graduating from university, you have to support another child who can't afford an education like you. Can you do that?"
Although it wasn't compulsory, currently, every child they supported managed to do it, and they believed John could do it too.

"Even if Evey and I didn't support you, as long as you explain your situation to your school teachers, they will definitely find a way to help you. They won't just stand by and watch you drop out and work."
