Chapter 531 Not Acquainted

While Kevin and Evelyn were engrossed in their conversation, neither of them had noticed Lucia standing nearby. Lucia found herself in disbelief, struggling to comprehend how someone like Evelyn, who hailed from such a modest background, could be acquainted with Kevin.

'And what did she call him? Kevin?' Lucia thought to herself. She felt increasingly overawed by Evelyn, deeming her to be shrewd and somewhat menacing.

"Sis, you know Mr. Kevin Sackler?" Lucia asked with a smile as she approached them, attempting to appear casual. Although both of them belonged to one of Columbia's top ten families, there was a clear hierarchy, with the Sackler family being among the most prestigious, exactly the kind of family Lucia coveted.

Kevin, however, had always been aloof. They had seen each other at soirées, but he never gave her the time of day, leaving her with only the likes of Leap for company.

Evelyn nodded with a smile. "Yes, that's right."

"What a small world! I know Mr. Kevin too," Lucia said, smiling back. She was speaking to Evelyn, but her gaze stayed fixed on Kevin.

Hearing this, Kevin frowned and turned to look at Lucia questioningly.

Kevin knew of Lucia as a Kyte family member, but their relationship was nothing more than superficial encounters at social events.

Ignoring Lucia, Kevin resumed his conversation with Evelyn, "Looks like the party's winding down. Can I offer you a ride home?"

Evelyn hesitated for a moment, scanning the room, hoping to spot Dermot. However, with no sign of him, she nodded and accepted, "Sure, I'd appreciate that."

Although the Kyte family had a driver waiting outside, given her familiarity with Kevin, she saw no reason to decline his offer.

Lucia, overhearing this exchange, couldn't hide her envy. Still, she masked it with a smile and said, “Mr. Kevin, I was actually thinking of heading back too.”

Her eyes bore into Kevin with an intensity that all but screamed, “Take me with you...”

Thankfully, Evelyn never considered Lucia her sister, or she’d be mortified.

"Does the great Miss Lucia Kyte also require my assistance?" Kevin asked dryly, with no real intention of offering her a ride.

Lucia persisted, "If you're taking my sister, why can't I join?"

Despite the Sackler family being a cut above the Kyte's, Lucia saw them as equals and didn't understand why she was being treated differently.

"No can do," Kevin refused flatly, sparing no courtesy.

Lucia's frustration mounted, but she reluctantly turned to Evelyn, trying to appeal to their supposed sisterly connection, "Sis..."

“Cut the act. Do you really think of us as sisters?” Evelyn scoffed. Outside of putting on a show for Blake, she couldn’t care less about any pretense of sisterhood.

Lucia’s smile faltered. She could only watch as they left together. Her clenched fists by her sides revealed her inner turmoil, as even the pain of her nails digging into her palms couldn't soothe her emotions.

“Evelyn!” Lucia seethed inwardly. “I won't let you take everything that's rightfully mine!”

Once Kevin and Evelyn had departed, Dermot emerged from the shadows. He had noticed Evelyn searching for someone during the party and had guessed she was looking for him. However, he chose to remain hidden, aware that his presence would only bring her trouble.

Yet, seeing Evelyn leave with another man, especially someone Dermot recognized, stirred discomfort in him. He recalled that at the Moris City auction, it had been Kevin who stepped in to assist Evelyn. Dermot remembered she called him "senior," but he couldn't help but wonder if there was more to their relationship.

The uncertainty gnawed at him, leaving him in a state of unease.
