Chapter 279 Truly a Family
Fortunately, Evelyn managed to stop Ruby from rushing forward, otherwise, she had no doubt that Ruby would tear Phoebe apart.
"Ruby!" Evelyn chastised. "Stay calm, it's not worth getting angry over someone like her!"
Ruby bit her lip, tears threatening to fall. "You're right. A murderer like her should spend her life in prison!"
"Who are you calling a murderer? I warn you, don't spout nonsense. It was just a sudden loss of control over the car," Phoebe wasn't foolish. Now that Evelyn was fine, nobody had any evidence to prove that she was planning to harm her.
Hearing her denial, the anger that Ruby had just suppressed rose again. "Evelyn, don't stop me. I must beat this woman up today!"
Indeed, everyone from the Irvine family was so detestable.
Craig was like that, and his sister too.
"Ruby," Evelyn called her, shaking her head.
Ruby was unwilling and wanted to say something, but when she saw Evelyn looking at Phoebe with a calm expression, not a hint of anger due to her denial, she gave up.
"Do you think you can escape by denying everything? Phoebe, do you really think I'm that easy to deal with?"
"I've gathered all the surveillance footage. Anyone with clear eyes can see that it was premeditated murder. Do you think I'm so easy to handle?"
"Vine family to support you, you'll be fine?" she sneered, her smile making Phoebe tremble inside. "What do you mean?" she stammered. "Why don't you guess how much Craig would sacrifice for you, his sister? Would he be willing to risk the reputation of the Irvine family to protect you?" Evelyn said with a smile.
Phoebe remained silent, but her face turned pale. Evelyn didn't intend to stop there and continued, "Once I upload the surveillance video online, even if the Irvine family wants to protect you, he will be prepared to be condemned by everyone. Are you sure Craig would be willing to give so much for you?"
"Not to mention that the Irvine family has been trying to transform and completely whitewash their history these past two years. At a time like this, do you think Craig would protect you? I bet he would be more than happy to push you out to demonstrate the Irvine family's determination to cleanse themselves," Evelyn said.
Evelyn's words successfully made Phoebe tremble, and she looked at the woman in front of her, feeling that she was more terrifying than her own brother. Gritting her teeth, it took her a while to squeeze out a sentence, "What do you want?"
"I don't want anything, I just want you to pay the price," Evelyn chuckled, not intending to say more. She turned around, ready to leave with Ruby.
Before the two could reach the door, someone pushed open the door to the ward, and Craig walked in. Seeing Evelyn and Ruby in the room, he froze for a moment but quickly regained his composure. "State your conditions, how can we spare Phoebe?" For Craig, there was no problem that couldn't be solved as long as the benefits he offered were sufficient.
"You and Phoebe truly live up to being a family," Evelyn sneered. She didn't have any special feelings towards Craig before, but with the incident involving Ruby and now Phoebe, she started to dislike this man.
Craig frowned, his displeasure evident on his face. "Sending Phoebe to prison would serve no purpose for you other than venting your anger. You won't gain anything, and you'll only offend the entire Irvine family."
"Dermot has always said you're smart. I believe that as a smart person, you should know what choices are better for yourself," Evelyn stated. If it weren't for Dermot's favoritism, Craig wouldn't waste his breath on her. He didn't consider Evelyn important at all.
