For Lassie, these words were indeed like a lifeline. Having options was good; she just didn't want to have no choice.
"Your grandfather's condition is indeed very serious, and I'm sure you're aware of that," Evelyn said, looking at Lassie.
Lassie nodded and Evelyn continued, "The only way to give him more time is through surgery."
Lassie's eyes widened in disbelief. "Surgery is still an option? The doctors in Colombia said it wasn't possible."
"It is possible, but it comes with a significant risk. What they said is not entirely wrong," Evelyn corrected Lassies’s assumptions.
Not everyone dares to take risks, especially when it came to the Baker family. They probably wouldn't want Grandpa Baker to die under their care.
"I won't give up as long as there's a chance," Lassie firmly stated without any hesitation. She couldn't bear to watch her grandfather pass away before her eyes.
Witnessing Lassie's determination, Evelyn understood her desire to save her grandfather. However, she felt compelled to remind her,
"I have to make it clear to you that even though surgery is an option, there's a high chance that Grandpa Doyle won't survive the operation. In case..."
"Dr. Kyte, I trust you. Whatever happens..." Lassie clenched her teeth and made her decision, "I'll accept it." Lassie sighed.
Evelyn nodded as she inquired further. "Alright, what about your parents? Are they on board with this?"
Lassie didn't want to reach a point where her grandfather needed surgery and then her parents disagreed. That would make things very complicated she thought.
"Don't worry, I can persuade them," Lassie confidently reassured. As long as she could save her grandfather, nothing else mattered.
"When can the surgery be scheduled? My grandfather's condition is deteriorating rapidly," Lassie still wanted her grandfather to undergo the operation as soon as possible, fearing that waiting too long wouldn't be beneficial.
Evelyn glanced at the medical records again and explained,
"Here's how it will work. You will have to go and convince the directors of both hospitals to collaborate. Once both sides agree, I can go to Colombia to perform the surgery. Otherwise, I won't be able to proceed."
She wanted to save the man, but she couldn't act recklessly. The proper procedures had to be followed.
"Alright, leave it to me then. I will take care of it as quickly as possible," Lassie nodded. At this moment, she would do anything Evelyn instructed her to do.
After finishing their conversation, Lassie stood up and prepared to handle the matter. She didn't want to waste a single moment.
As she reached the door, Lassie stopped in her tracks, she turned to face Evelyn as she confessed.
"Dr. Kyte, Dermot and I are really just cooperating. Since we announced our relationship, we haven't seen each other much."
She believed Evelyn was a good person, but as for Dermot... he was a sentimental person. If they weren't together, it would be a great loss.
"I understand," Evelyn didn't say much. She did believe Lassie's words, but the fact remained that Dermot had deceived her, and that was something she couldn't accept. The point that bothered Evelyn was deception, not the relationship.
After leaving the office, Evelyn didn't think much about it instead she carefully studied Lassie's grandfather's case and called some of her contacts. This surgery was not going to be an easy one.
Therefore, she would have to assemble some talented people in the medical field, to somewhat improve the chances of a successful outcome.
