Chapter 1274: Getting Married
In the living room, Arianna saw the three folks who just walked in and jumped up to greet them, her over-the-top excitement making Evelyn feel all kinds of weird.
She remembered Arianna never liked her. Last time she was here, Arianna was ice cold. So, what’s with the sudden cheerleader act?
"Evelyn, you finally made it! I was just telling Jacob we should go pick you up," Arianna said, grinning and pulling Evelyn to sit down.
Evelyn was confused but went along with it.
She didn’t want to start anything with Arianna this time. As long as Arianna kept it cool, Evelyn would too.
"Let's eat first," Jacob said, giving Arianna a look and telling her to grab the food from the kitchen.
Arianna didn’t argue, telling Evelyn and the others to chill while she went to get the dishes.
With just a few of them left in the room, Jacob got straight to the point, "Evelyn, you called me yesterday and said you and Mr. Doyle are getting hitched?"
"Yep, the wedding’s in three months. I want you guys to come," Evelyn said, adding, "I also wanted to tell Grandpa the news so he can rest easy up there."
Jacob nodded. "Yeah, you should definitely tell your grandpa about something this big."
Even though Evelyn's grandpa had passed, she had to tell him at his grave.
"Arianna and I won’t make it to your wedding," Jacob said, looking a bit awkward. "We’ve never been to Golombia, and we’d just embarrass you."
Plus, he wasn’t Evelyn’s real uncle.
With Evelyn’s real parents there, what would he be? It’d be weird.
Evelyn didn’t care about that and insisted. "Uncle Jacob, Dermot and I don’t mind. You watched me grow up, and I really want you there."
"This..." Jacob hesitated. He’d never been to Golombia.
Dermot chimed in, "Uncle Jacob, you should go. I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up. Think of it as a mini-vacation."
With both of them pushing so hard, Jacob felt like he’d be a jerk to keep saying no.
He smiled and nodded. "Alright, I’ll go. Seeing you get married will put my mind at ease."
Evelyn smiled, looked around, and asked, "Where’s Emily?"
Evelyn didn’t really like Emily, but since she was Jacob’s daughter, she wouldn’t do anything to her.
Before, Evelyn had Emily spend some time at the police station to teach her a lesson. A few days later, she had the cops let her go. She should be home by now.
When she asked about Emily, Jacob looked like he didn’t know what to say.
Just then, Arianna came out of the kitchen, annoyed, "Emily’s married."
"Married?" Evelyn couldn’t believe it.
Not that Emily would want to get married, but if she did, why hadn’t Jacob mentioned it?
Jacob looked embarrassed and struggled to speak, "Emily got pregnant with Cecil Ortiz behind everyone’s back. I didn’t approve, but there was nothing I could do. She had to marry him. They didn’t even have a wedding; she just moved in with him."
Evelyn didn’t know what to say. This was totally something Emily would do.
She didn’t care where Emily got married, but she felt bad for Jacob. She could imagine how ugly things must have gotten between him and Emily.
