Chapter 360 Aren't You Sad
Surprised, Evelyn hadn't even spoken yet when John made a guess. She could only speak the truth, "Well, it's about your father..."
"Him?" John immediately frowned. "Has he come to bother you again?"
Evelyn shook her head without going into details. "It's about your father. He got into some trouble and is going to be sentenced."
Upon hearing this, John showed no sign of sadness on his face, even appearing somewhat pleased. "Really? Once he's sentenced, he won't be able to come and bother you anymore, right?"
"Aren't you sad?" Evelyn asked.
"Why should I be? I stopped considering him my father a long time ago." Robert, this father, had long been dead in his heart.
There were countless times he wished Robert was actually dead, so he could finally be at ease.
Hearing him say this, Evelyn was taken aback, clearly surprised.
Seeing her reaction, John suddenly panicked. "Sis, do you think I'm heartless?"
Evelyn shook her head. "No, I just feel sorry for you."
No one is born heartless unless they have experienced a pain that others haven't. John was obviously such a person.
"Thank you, sis. I'm glad you think that way." He was afraid Evelyn would consider him heartless.
Evelyn reached out and patted his head, smiling at him. "I'm just worried that your father's sentencing will affect you."
"I know, but... I don't care." In his eyes, he would rather ask Robert for a favor, as for everything else, he truly didn't care that much.
Before long, the waiter brought the dishes to the table, and Evelyn didn't continue discussing this matter with him. "Let's eat first. Don't worry about anything else, just focus on your studies."
"Yeah, I will." John nodded. For now, all he could do was study hard.
As they ate, Evelyn kept picking up food for John, urging him to eat more, while she herself wasn't very hungry, having eaten not long ago.
John didn't refuse, feeling touched, and knowing he would have to repay Evelyn someday.
In the afternoon, after Evelyn dropped John off at school, she went to the company and had a chat with Sarah about the opening.
When Evelyn was about to leave, she unexpectedly ran into Emily. Seeing Evelyn, Emily seemed surprised, but quickly put on a cold face, pretending not to recognize her.
Evelyn didn't chase after her when she turned and left, instead asking Sarah beside her, "Has she been working diligently lately?"
Ever since Emily moved out, Evelyn hadn't seen her again, and Sarah hadn't mentioned her. Evelyn was still unaware of her current situation.
"She's been doing okay recently." Sarah didn't intentionally speak ill of her. "Although she's still inexperienced, she's been learning diligently."
Evelyn was surprised. She hadn't expected Emily to still be working.
"I can actually understand it now," Evelyn remarked.
"But she doesn't live in the company dormitory, she rents a place outside," Sarah added.
Evelyn didn't pay attention to these details or care about where Emily lived. After all, she was already an adult and had her own judgment.
"As long as she works properly, I won't spoil her," Evelyn said.
Sarah nodded, "Don't worry, even if you spoil her, I won't."
She didn't have much affection for Emily, so there was no way she would go easy on her when it came to asking her to leave.
They didn't continue discussing Emily. Sarah walked Evelyn downstairs and said, "Drive slowly, I need to go back and get busy."
"Yeah, with you in charge at the company, I don't have to worry about a thing." In truth, Evelyn didn't really take much responsibility either. She would just occasionally come and check things, behaving like a lazy boss.
Sarah nodded, "You don't have to worry, just focus on your design work."
