Chapter 578 Blake's Sarcasm
Dermot comprehended Evelyn's perspective and refrained from pressing the matter further. He simply nodded in agreement, acknowledging, "You're right. Teaching him to love someone appropriately is crucial."
Without this understanding, even if Craig and Ruby were in a good place now, the same problems could potentially resurface and pull them apart in the future.
In Craig, Dermot saw a reflection of himself, albeit a distorted one. He had never been as controlling in matters of the heart. His affection for Evelyn was undeniable, but he would never dream of ensnaring her. His preference was to earn her affection through his actions.
Before long, dinner was served, and the trio convened at the table.
"We're returning to Columbia tomorrow, correct?" Blake inquired, seeking affirmation during the meal.
Evelyn nodded in confirmation, "As soon as we collect her, we'll head directly to the airport."
The presence of Blake almost guaranteed that Craig would not intervene. However, Evelyn was not one to gamble on certainties. It was safer to depart as quickly as possible.
Blake, unperturbed by the mention of this Craig, nodded. In Columbia, he might have hesitated, wary of anyone with influential connections. But in Moris City, such concerns were non-existent. What sort of influence could anyone truly exert here?
Having established their plans with Blake, Evelyn turned her attention to Dermot. "And when will you be returning to Columbia?"
"You go on ahead. There are a few matters at the company that require my attention; I'll follow in a few days," Dermot responded.
His hesitation to depart was not solely business-related. The issue of Craig also factored into his decision. As a friend, he felt obliged to stay and provide some solace. The guilt of not being able to assist more was already weighing on him. Leaving now might signify the end of their friendship.
Before Evelyn could respond, Blake interjected, his tone laced with irritation, "You're not getting cold feet about confronting the Roberts family, are you?"
They had already devised their strategy to face the Roberts family upon their return, and Dermot was a crucial component. If he backed out, their entire plan would be jeopardized.
Blake was a man of action, inclined to put plans into motion once decisions were made. He had little tolerance for delays or unexpected obstacles.
"Rest assured, it's only a matter of days," Dermot replied, meeting Blake's veiled challenge head-on. Despite Blake being Evelyn's father, and the evident sarcasm, Dermot maintained his composure.
Blake refrained from pressing further, and Evelyn finally spoke up, "There's no need to rush. We need to prepare ourselves; the Roberts aren't so easily handled."
Blake remained silent. His daughter's caution was a stark contrast to her previous audacity. He chose not to comment. Having not raised her himself, he felt it was not his place to criticize.
After dinner, Dermot took his leave, and Evelyn and Blake retired to their respective rooms. Tomorrow held significant matters.
Meanwhile, in a secluded villa nestled in the mountains, Craig's brow furrowed slightly as he noticed Ruby deep in thought. "What's on your mind?" he asked.
Ruby glanced back at him and shook her head dismissively, "Nothing much."
"Are you bored?" Craig probed, his tone softer than usual. Ruby remained silent. Her thoughts were consumed with worry for her parents, uncertain of their safety.
With Craig's men constantly present, she seldom visited the Kite household or made contact, not wanting to endanger them.
Craig, who typically disapproved of Evelyn, unexpectedly suggested, "Dermot mentioned that Evelyn's back. How about we visit her tomorrow? I'll accompany you."
It was an unusual concession, considering his evident reluctance to involve Ruby with Evelyn. However, his discomfort at seeing Ruby distressed outweighed his reservations.
