Chapter 1256: We Will Always Be a Family
She busted out laughing. Dermot and Evelyn had been eyeballing them the whole time, so when they saw Lydia cracking up, they knew something was up.
Then, Lydia hooked her arm around Craig's and announced, "Hey everyone, meet my boyfriend, Craig."
She was grinning like she just hit the jackpot.
Everyone was floored, but Dermot started clapping first, then Evelyn joined in. "Congrats."
Yeah, this was definitely something to celebrate.
If Craig and Lydia actually got together, Ruby could finally chill and be happy.
Evelyn glanced at Dermot and could tell he was way more relaxed.
Maybe he knew that even if Craig agreed to be with Lydia, it wasn't really about love. But who cared? As long as he took that step, things would get better.
Ruby looked over at them, smiled at Lydia, and even gave her a thumbs-up.
She'd hung out with Lydia a few times. Even though Lydia knew Craig had a thing for her, she was never mean about it, so Ruby thought Lydia was pretty cool.
Ruby just hoped Craig would treat Lydia right and not screw things up again.
She kept staring over there, which made Alex twitchy. Annoyed, he blocked her view. "What are you staring at? Still hung up on your ex?"
"Shut up. I was looking at Lydia," Ruby snapped at him.
Alex said, "Quit staring. Everyone's happy they're together, and it's good for us too."
At least Craig wouldn't be bugging Ruby anymore.
Craig hadn't said a word the whole time. He let Lydia link arms with him and call him her boyfriend without a peep.
Wasn't this just a game of who could act cooler? No way he was losing that.
Craig thought, "Ruby, you picked Alex, but that doesn't make me any less. Plenty of chicks are into me."
In the private room, the vibe was lit, and everyone had a few too many. By the time the party wrapped up, the guys were mostly wasted, but the girls were still pretty sober.
Evelyn watched Ruby and Sarah leave, then turned to see Niall and Lily already in their car, leaving just Aidan standing there.
Aidan was probably the only single dude tonight.
"Aidan, I called a driver for you," Evelyn said. Everyone else had a girlfriend or wife to drive them, but Aidan was solo, so he needed a ride.
Aidan didn't mind. He glanced at the hammered Dermot and asked, "Need a hand?"
"No, I got this," Evelyn shook her head. It was late, and it would be too much hassle to have Aidan help out.
Aidan didn't push it. They all had their own lives now.
"Evelyn," Aidan slurred a bit, his eyes kinda hazy, "I'm really happy you found your happiness."
"Thanks, Aidan. No matter who I'm with, we'll always be family," Evelyn said, getting a bit emotional.
Aidan nodded. "For sure. If Dermot ever messes with you, just tell me, and I'll kick his ass."
He was Evelyn's rock and had to have her back.
Evelyn smiled and nodded, then couldn't help but ask, "Aidan, Niall and I both have partners now. What about you? You planning to stay single forever?"
"Don't sweat it. I'm awesome; I'll find someone I like," Aidan smiled, not wanting Evelyn to worry.
Truth was, he wasn't into anyone right now. But Evelyn didn't need to know that.
