Chapter 37

Evelyn found the woman in front of her strange. Her son was fine, yet she insisted on surgery, which seemed odd to Evelyn. Suddenly, a warm hand held hers and she turned to see John, the patient in bed, patiently asking, "What's wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable?"

"I don't want surgery," he whispered softly, as if afraid the woman would hear him.

Evelyn felt that something was not right and was about to ask more questions when her phone rang. It was from the operating room, urging her to come over.

"You go to the surgery first, Dr. Kyte. I'll handle things here," the emergency doctor said.

Evelyn looked at the family members outside and then at John in bed, saying, "Don't worry. Surgery is not necessary for your condition. Listen to this big brother; he will heal you."

"Okay." John nodded, feeling relieved that he wouldn't have to undergo surgery.

After giving some instructions, Evelyn was about to leave for the operating room when the woman rushed forward to stop her. "You can't go! Who will perform surgery on my son if you leave?"

However, before the woman could touch Evelyn, she was stopped by someone else. "Who are you, a shrew? How dare you lay hands on my Dr. Kyte?"

It was Keith, holding a red rose in his hand, looking fiercely at the woman as he pushed her away.

My Dr. Kyte?

When did I become his?

Evelyn was speechless but had no time to chat with him. "Comfort the family members. If it doesn't work, inform the medical department beforehand."

Notifying the medical department in advance was to prevent the family members from causing trouble.

Evelyn walked towards the operating room, with Keith following closely behind. "Since I helped you a little, can we have a meal together after the surgery?" Keith asked, smiling.

"I'll think about it," she neither rejected nor accepted him directly.

"Okay, I'll wait for you then." He said and sat at the door of the operating room, thinking that as long as Evelyn didn't reject him directly, he still had a chance.

Evelyn ignored him and focused on the surgery after changing clothes.

When Dermot brought Cassie to the hospital for a check-up, they saw Keith holding the red rose. Dermot's face turned pale.

"Oh, isn't this Mr. Doyle? Are you here with your girlfriend for a prenatal check-up?" Keith teased, looking at them both.

"Mr. Kartland, how can you say that? I...I have nothing with Dermot." Cassie blushed.

She hadn't even become Dermot's girlfriend yet, and this guy already said she was here for a prenatal check-up? How outrageous!

Keith glanced at her like she was stupid.

Can't you see that I'm deliberately mocking Dermot?

"Your taste is really poor," Keith said to Dermot, adding, "I heard you got divorced?"

"Well, I heard your wife came from the countryside; you probably didn't like her either." Keith kept talking to himself without waiting for Dermot's response.

"But this one is not so great either, maybe not as good-looking as your wife." Although he had never seen Dermot's wife, he had seen Cassie. This woman was not very attractive and looked stupid. He didn't know what Dermot was thinking.

"You shut up!" Dermot roared, "Cassie is my sister. If you dare to talk nonsense again, do you believe that I'll beat you up?"
