Chapter 922: It's Too Spacious, I Don't Like It

"Joshua!" Evelyn greeted him at the door and stepped aside to let him in.

Joshua, carrying groceries, walked into the living room. "I wasn't sure what to bring for your move, so how about I cook dinner tonight?"

He clearly had this planned.

"I've never had your cooking," Evelyn said, smiling and a bit surprised, wondering if she was the only one who couldn't cook.

"Tonight, you'll get a feast," Joshua replied, heading to the kitchen with the groceries.

Evelyn didn't object. She thought they'd just chat and maybe go out to eat, but since Joshua offered to cook, she had no reason to refuse.

In the kitchen, Joshua was already busy. Evelyn stood at the door. "It's still early; why don't you take a break?"

She had just had lunch and would have napped if Joshua hadn't called. But now, she wasn't sleepy, partly because Joshua was there and partly because of the issue with Lily that was bothering her.

"True, it's still early," Joshua agreed, rinsed the vegetables, and then returned to the living room with Evelyn.

Joshua looked around and smiled. "Why did you suddenly decide to move out of Kyte Manor?"

"It's too far from the hospital, and it's too big for just me. I don't like it," Evelyn said. Despite the many servants, it felt empty, unlike her cozy new place.

Joshua understood. "What about Mr. Kyte? When's he coming back?"

"He said he has some leads, but who knows if they're real." She hadn't heard from Blake in days and wondered if his leads would pan out.

Joshua sighed, sharing her concern. "After so many years, finding someone is tough."

"Yeah, but my dad doesn't want to give up, and I don't stop him. It's better than him overthinking at home," Evelyn said. At least Blake had something to do, even if it didn't work out.

Joshua nodded. "Yeah, some folks just cling to hope." He knew that without hope, the pain could be unbearable.

For years, he had lived on a glimmer of hope.

Evelyn didn't say anything, got up, and poured Joshua a glass of water. "There's only water here, hope that's okay."

"Why should that matter? Even if you didn't pour me water, I wouldn't care," Joshua said, not wanting things to be so formal between them.

Evelyn smiled, sat back down, and suddenly didn't know what to say. She casually asked, "Joshua, what have you been doing abroad all these years? I haven't heard much about you."

If Aidan hadn't brought him back, Evelyn might have forgotten about Joshua.

"Not much. I studied, then got a job. When Aidan found me, I decided to come back," Joshua said, avoiding eye contact. If Evelyn had noticed, she might have seen the dodgy look in his eyes.

But Evelyn didn't notice and just nodded.
