Chapter 823 Each Takes What They Need
"Have I ever done something without being confident?" Dermot looked up, his eyes practically saying, "How could you ask such a dumb question?"
Speechless, Craig waved him away. "Leave me alone. Only come to me if it's something important."."
Dermot stood up, ready to leave. "If you like Ruby, put some effort into it. Don't be pushy. You can't afford to mess with Evelyn right now."
"I can't afford to mess with either of you, okay?" Craig rolled his eyes. Dermot's warning about Evelyn was just his way of dodging a fight. Whether it was for Craig's own good or not, who knew?
On the surface, Evelyn was the head of the Kyte family, but secretly, she might not be able to handle Craig's sneaky tactics.
Dermot didn't say more; he knew Craig got it and wasn't too worried.
After leaving the Irvine Group, Dermot received a call from Randy asking him to come to the old house.
Dermot didn't refuse. He had a pretty good idea why Randy wanted to see him, but he still needed to clear a few things up. It wasn't time to burn bridges yet.
At the Martin family residence, Margaret stood in the center of the hall, feeling the stares from everyone in the family.
Those stares were full of ridicule, disdain, and even contempt.
Margaret knew what they were thinking. They thought she had gone to great lengths to get close to Dermot, hoping that once he took over the Doyle family, she could elevate her status in the Martin family.
But now, Dermot hadn't even inherited the Doyle family yet and had already ditched her, making all her schemes seem laughable.
It wasn't just others who thought this way; even she found it ridiculous.
"What happened between you and Dermot? Weren't things going well before? Why did you suddenly break up?" Margaret's grandfather, Isaac Martin, was somewhat displeased. He had thought Margaret was finally making some progress, but now it seemed otherwise.
Isaac was still the head of the Martin family, so when he asked, Margaret had no choice but to answer.
"It's because of Evelyn. You know, Dermot and Evelyn had a past relationship. Their feelings for each other haven't completely ended," Margaret said.
Isaac didn't care about the reason. He said coldly, "So? Is it over between you and Dermot?"
"Grandpa, I won't give up. Please give me another chance," Margaret pleaded.
"Enough!" The one who spoke was Margaret's father, Steven Martin. He had never looked at Margaret favorably, so he wasn't surprised by the current situation.
Steven looked at Isaac and said, "Dad, Dermot has already contacted me. He said that even though he and Margaret broke up, our cooperation can continue. Once he inherits the Doyle family, what he promised us will still count."
In other words, Dermot was now bypassing Margaret and dealing directly with the Martin family.
"Can we trust him?" Without Margaret as a connection, Isaac was somewhat worried.
"Dad, it's just a matter of mutual benefit. There's nothing about trust," Steven said indifferently.
Isaac remained silent. Margaret wanted to speak, but her mother pulled her back, signaling her to stay quiet.
Margaret, feeling helpless, had no choice but to comply, though she was unwilling in her heart.
After a while, Isaac seemed to come to a decision and nodded. "Alright, anyway, I'm still skeptical about whether he can inherit the Doyle family. Until it's certain, we should be cautious about getting involved in the Doyle family's internal affairs to avoid giving Randy any leverage."
"Okay, got it," Steven replied.
