Chapter 970: Don't Say That Again
Jeffery sighed and muttered, "Honestly, handing the company to Dermot isn't a bad idea. He's more capable than any of us. With him running the Doyle Group, we'll make more money without doing anything. Isn't that great?"
He couldn't understand why his dad and the late Gerald were so against Dermot taking over the Doyle family.
Before James could scold him, Melissa, standing nearby, snapped, "Shut up! Do you really think Dermot's a good guy? If he takes over, are you sure we'll even survive?"
Jeffery looked at her. "Melissa."
"If you don't want to manage the Doyle Group, fine, but don't say that again," Melissa cut him off.
Jeffery nodded, though it was unclear if he really meant it.
James glanced at him and said, "Alright, let's go home."
Three days later, it was Cliff Hamilton's funeral.
Evelyn had promised to come and pay her respects to Cliff, and she showed up at the cemetery as promised. Holding white lilies, she placed the flowers beside Cliff and then walked over to Greg, sighing softly, "My condolences."
"Thanks, I'm fine." After organizing his grandfather's funeral, he had seen through the Hamilton family members. In front of outsiders, he showed no weakness.
Evelyn nodded and stepped aside without saying more.
Wendy was also there to pay her respects and stood next to Greg. She overheard the brief exchange between Evelyn and Greg.
Although their conversation was normal, it made her uncomfortable.
Maybe it was because Greg had once liked Evelyn, so Evelyn's presence made her feel threatened.
Greg didn't care what she was thinking. Once everyone had paid their respects, he arranged for the burial, showing little emotion.
By late morning, most guests had left.
Evelyn went up to Greg, planning to say a few comforting words before leaving.
However, before she could get close, Wendy blocked her path. "Ms. Kyte, Greg's not in a good mood today and doesn't have time to entertain you. You should leave early."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, "Ms. Cook, can you make decisions for Mr. Hamilton now? You're not married into the Hamilton family yet."
Evelyn couldn't leave without saying a word to the host. If she left abruptly, Greg might think she was rude.
"I'm just suggesting it because I don't want Greg to be too tired," Wendy said.
"I get your concern for Mr. Hamilton, but as a guest, it's just polite to say goodbye before leaving. Otherwise, it seems rude, don't you think?" Evelyn responded.
Evelyn was insistent, so Wendy couldn't hold back. "Are you really just here to say goodbye to Greg, or do you have other intentions?"
Evelyn was speechless. Did all women think that if another woman spoke a few more words to their boyfriend, it meant she was interested in him?
"Since you're with Mr. Hamilton, you should know about his past," Evelyn said.
Wendy's face changed slightly, showing more displeasure. "I know Greg once pursued you, but that's in the past. Now, I'm his girlfriend."
Evelyn thought to herself, 'With your attitude, Greg will get tired of you sooner or later.'
Of course, she would never say it out loud. Otherwise, Wendy might confront her on the spot.
