Chapter 1030: I Just Like to Return the Same Way
"Got any New Year's plans?" Dermot asked, hoping Evelyn might spend it with him, though he doubted it.
Evelyn paused. "Not sure yet. Probably the usual—hanging out with Aidan and Niall."
She didn't mention Joshua might join them, not wanting to upset Dermot.
But Dermot could guess anyway.
"Sounds good. How about we set off fireworks together on New Year's Eve?" Dermot suggested.
Evelyn thought about it. After dinner, she probably wouldn't have much else to do, so she nodded. "Sure."
Dermot smiled, feeling pleased. "Then get some rest early."
"Yeah, you too; get some rest." She didn't ask about the Doyle family, partly because it didn't concern her and partly because she trusted Dermot knew what he was doing.
Just as she was about to hang up, Dermot suddenly asked, "Why don't you ask me about Margaret?"
Evelyn was taken aback but then remembered the news she had seen earlier.
"I don't think you're the type to go back to old flames," Evelyn said uncertainly.
"Who says? I do like going back to old flames." If he didn't, why would he have kept pestering Evelyn after their divorce?
Evelyn chuckled. "So, are you seriously thinking about getting back with Margaret?"
If he was, there wouldn't be much left for them to talk about.
"Of course not. I never liked her, so there's no question of getting back together." To him, Margaret had never meant anything; his only girlfriend had always been Evelyn.
Evelyn pressed her lips together. "Really? Then why are you in contact with her?"
"Evelyn, are you jealous?" Although Evelyn appeared calm, Dermot felt her question showed she still cared.
Evelyn didn't answer and was about to hang up. Dermot quickly said, "She asked me to help her take over the Martin family."
"Still about that?" Evelyn thought Margaret was persistent. She had teamed up with Dermot before for this, and now she still hadn't given up.
"Yeah, she has no say in the Martin family. Without my help, she has no chance." Everyone in the Martin family supported her brother; no one would back Margaret to become the head.
Among the top families, those like the Blake family, willing to hand over the group to their daughter, were rare.
Evelyn pursed her lips. "So, are you going to help her?"
"Not exactly. It's mutual benefit. I need her to convince the Martin family to stir up trouble for the Doyles. My help depends on me taking over the Doyle family; otherwise, I can't help her." Dermot knew he had the capability, but without control of the Doyle family, he wouldn't offer his assistance.
Otherwise, why would he help Margaret for no reason?
Evelyn nodded thoughtfully. "No wonder the Doyle family has been in turmoil lately. Even Mr. Randy Doyle couldn't resolve it. So, it's the Martin family causing trouble behind the scenes."
The Martin family wasn't much weaker than the Doyle family, so if they were deliberately causing trouble, it would be tough for James and Randy to handle, especially since the Doyle family already had plenty of issues.
