Chapter 713 You Have Earned My Apporal

The food in the company cafeteria was indeed delicious. Evelyn was satisfied with that and couldn't help but give Luke a thumbs up. "You're doing a great job as the general manager. Even the cafeteria food is so good. I can tell you've put a lot of thought into it."

"Of course, after all, I eat in the cafeteria every day." Now that he was alone, eating in the cafeteria was the most convenient option for him.

Hearing this, Evelyn felt a bit guilty. "How about finding you a deputy manager? Don't overwork yourself."

"Forget it. It's not yet time for a deputy manager. If I really can't handle it, I'll figure something out myself." After all, he had the final say in everything in the company. Even if he hired several deputy managers, Evelyn probably wouldn't know.

"Alright, do as you see fit. Just take care of yourself. After all, I've entrusted the entire company to you. If something happens to you, who will manage the company for me?" She spoke sincerely, but Luke felt her words sounded somewhat uncomfortable.

He glared at her and complained, "So, in your mind, I'm just a tool, right?"

Evelyn was taken aback.

"I thought we were at least friends by now." Luke smiled bitterly, feeling he had overestimated his place in Evelyn's heart.

Evelyn quickly nodded, her eyes sincere. "Of course, we're friends."

"Really?" He found it hard to believe.

"Yes." Evelyn nodded. This wasn't entirely untrue.

At first, she did have a utilitarian view of Luke, but over time, she had come to trust him completely. Otherwise, she wouldn't have handed over the company to him.

Luke saw her nod, and his lips curled into a smile, then he felt inexplicably better. "It seems my efforts haven't been in vain."

"Of course not. You have earned my approval," Evelyn said earnestly.

They didn't continue this topic. Evelyn thought of Benjamin and casually asked, "Is Benjamin still in the hospital?"

"Yes." Luke's expression remained calm, showing no emotional fluctuation.

"I thought you and he would be very close." After all, Benjamin had chosen to abandon Dermot for Luke back then. He had enjoyed the fatherly love that Dermot hadn't, so he should have a good relationship with Benjamin.

But it seemed that wasn't the case.

Luke continued eating and said casually, "I know what you're thinking, but during the years he was with my mother, he didn't really love her."

"They always argued. After every argument, Benjamin would say how much he had sacrificed for me and my mother, always acting like he was the one who lost out."

"He didn't give me much fatherly love either. At most, I saw him every day, but you know, I would rather not see him. At least then, the word 'father' would still hold some fantasy for me."

His feelings towards Benjamin were different from Dermot's. He didn't have much hatred, just indifference, and he wasn't particularly grateful to him.

It was the first time Evelyn heard him talk so much about Benjamin, and her feelings were complicated. She suddenly felt that Benjamin's current situation might be his retribution.

He had let down too many people, and now this outcome was what he deserved.

They didn't continue this topic, and Evelyn didn't ask further. Just then, Sarah also came to the cafeteria for a meal.

Unlike Luke, she didn't come often. Most of the time, she would go home to cook.

"Evelyn? Why didn't you tell me you were coming to the company?" Sarah walked over with her tray, a bit of reproach in her tone.
