Chapter 852 How Could You Be an Ordinary Person?
Dermot didn't care about Joshua's teasing. He was here to talk, not to argue.
Once Joshua finished, Dermot asked, "Does it really matter if someone lacks self-awareness, or is it more about whether they cause you trouble? What do you think?"
Joshua frowned, stared at Dermot for a bit, then smirked. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
He knew well that Dermot wasn't here for no reason.
"How about you help me deal with Gerald?" Dermot grinned. His tone made it clear he was negotiating, not asking.
Joshua was taken aback. He studied Dermot for a moment, then laughed. "Why would I help you?"
Joshua added, "Besides, Otis is the one making me upset, not his dad. I'm not an idiot."
Otis was the one bothering Evelyn. If Dermot wanted to use that as leverage, he should've asked Joshua to deal with Otis. Asking him to handle Gerald was trying to get him to solve the Doyle family's problems, and Joshua wasn't falling for it.
Dermot stayed calm. "Otis doesn't have much pull in the Doyle family. Even if you deal with him, someone else will still trouble you. It's pointless."
The real power struggle in the Doyle family was between Gerald and James. Otis and Jeffery were still too young to matter.
Joshua knew this but still didn't want to help Dermot. "Even so, I'm not taking on Gerald. You give me too much credit. I'm just a regular guy; how could I take on the Doyle family?"
He eyed Dermot, suspecting he knew something.
But on second thought, it seemed unlikely. Joshua had been careful since returning home. Dermot had no reason to be watching him.
"Regular guy," Dermot chuckled. "How could the boss of a famous mercenary group be a regular guy? Mr. Garcia, you're too modest."
Joshua's face changed instantly. He glared at Dermot. "How do you know?"
"Is it that hard? Just spend some money to dig around overseas." Of course, it was actually much harder. Joshua wasn't dumb and had hidden his tracks well.
But with enough money, one can find out anything.
It was a stroke of luck. When Joshua first showed up around Evelyn, Dermot had someone look into him but found nothing, which tipped him off that Joshua wasn't just some ordinary guy. Regular folks don't need to hide their identities.
So, he spent a lot of money to uncover Joshua's true identity. While surprised, he also started planning. This proposal wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing; it was premeditated.
Joshua's face was grim. He knew how tough it was to uncover his identity. If Dermot found out, it meant he had put in a lot of effort.
He couldn't figure out why Dermot would investigate him when they barely knew each other.
He wanted to know Dermot's answer.
