Chapter 564 As Long As You're Willing
<Chapter>Chapter 564 If You're Willing</Chapter>
Blake found himself at a loss, unable to decipher the source of Dermot's unwavering confidence. Yet, hearing Dermot's assured words, Blake felt no inclination to probe further. After all, it was none of his business. Even if Dermot were to face bankruptcy due to the Roberts family, what did it have to do with him?
The only concern that held his attention was persuading Evelyn to steer clear of Dermot, to shield her from the impending fallout.
However, it was evident that Evelyn had a different perspective. When her father broached the subject, she ventured to ask, "Hasn't the Kyte family's growth hit a roadblock?"
A frown creased Blake's forehead, a sense of unease creeping over him.
"Why not consider taking over the Roberts family? It would provide a significant advantage for the Kyte family to ascend further," Evelyn suggested, her lips curling into a smile.
With the Roberts family out of the equation, no one would continue to pester Dermot, and Dora would lose her support entirely. This was indeed a favorable turn of events for Evelyn.
Blake, however, was not in agreement. "Evelyn, you may not fully understand the intricacies of the business world. The Roberts family may be a step below the Kyte family, but they still rank among the top ten families in Colombia. Absorbing them, given our current state, is virtually impossible."
Otherwise, the Kyte family might find themselves sinking in the attempt, a scenario that would spell disaster.
"It's not entirely out of the question. After all, we have Dermot," she retorted. "You two could join forces, and if that's still insufficient, rope in the Sackler family. I'm confident they'd be interested." With the Roberts family out of the picture, other families would have access to more resources.
Furthermore, these prominent families were notoriously self-serving. They wouldn't lift a finger unless it was to fan the flames of someone else's misfortune.
Seeing Evelyn's earnestness, Blake's gaze shifted to Dermot, "Do you share the same sentiment?"
Dermot nodded, "I have no objections, as long as you're willing."
In that moment, Blake felt the weight of his years.
'The audacity of the younger generation, swallowing up a top-tier family as if it's a mere small-scale business.'
Evelyn's proposal was one thing, but Dermot's agreement was another. Was he even aware of his current predicament?
His Doyle Group, even after relocating their headquarters to Columbia, was at best a third-tier entity, nowhere near the stature of the Hamilton family.
Noticing his silence, Evelyn persisted, "Dad, I truly believe you should consider it. The Kyte family aims to rise, and sometimes, bold steps are necessary. Absorbing another family’s business is a swift and secure method."
A twitch played at the corner of Blake's brow. Although Evelyn had recently recognized him as her father, this was the first time she had addressed him as "dad". He sighed, resigned. Despite understanding that Evelyn's motive was to aid Dermot, he couldn't refute her after that "dad."
"I need to ponder over it," he conceded.
Evelyn's smile widened, content with his response, "Alright, take your time. There's no rush."
After all, they had to wait for the situation in Morris City to stabilize before returning, which should afford Blake ample time to contemplate.
Following dinner, Dermot, having no reason to linger, rose to depart.
Evelyn escorted him to the door. In the hallway, Dermot fixed her with a meaningful gaze.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Evelyn asked, puzzled, noticing Dermot's lack of movement to retrieve his keys.
A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, and before Evelyn could react, he drew her into his arms, "Evey, thank you."
Enveloped in his embrace, she didn't resist, murmuring softly, "Thank me for what? I haven't done anything."
"You've done a lot, and I'm grateful." He wasn't oblivious. By proposing they take over the Roberts family, Evelyn was, in fact, helping him.
