Chapter 1214: How Dare She
The vibe got real tense for a sec, but luckily, Cassie had toughened up and wasn't gonna let it get to her.
She took a deep breath, forced a smile, and said, "Dermot, I get it. You see me as a sister, and that's cool. You've always been like a brother to me. Yeah, we had some drama before, and I messed up with Dr. Kyte 'cause I was young and dumb, but I've changed. I wouldn't pull that crap again."
She was being real, her eyes a bit teary.
Cassie thought Dermot might react to all that.
But then she noticed Dermot wasn't even looking at her; his eyes were glued to Evelyn. She wasn't sure if he even heard her.
Cassie felt like crying, but Dermot didn't give her the chance.
"Are you done?" Dermot asked, sounding bored.
Cassie was shocked but nodded.
"Alright then, let me spell it out. I used to see you as a sister, but now I don't care about you at all, not even as a friend. We should just be strangers," Dermot said, ice-cold, not giving a damn about her feelings.
Cassie's heart dropped, and tears started to form.
"And one more thing, stay away from Evelyn. If I find out you haven't, there'll be hell to pay for you and your family," Dermot warned.
He wanted to make it clear he wasn't into Cassie, but now she was pushing it. How dare she?
Cassie didn't even dare to cry anymore.
Evelyn didn't care about their convo and kept herself busy.
But she was kinda happy. It felt good to be the one someone cared about.
Cassie had no choice but to leave.
After she left, Dermot pulled Evelyn into a hug. "Sorry for the hassle."
"It's fine. I mean, I did pick a guy with a fan club," Evelyn sighed, feeling a bit helpless.
Dermot was a catch, both looks and skills, so naturally, he had a lot of admirers.
But Evelyn wasn't worried. She thought she was pretty great too, and if Dermot could be swayed easily, he wasn't worth it.
Dermot tapped her forehead and said, "You don't have admirers? Who was it that got snatched and almost didn't come back?"
Evelyn pouted. 'Fine, better keep my mouth shut,' she thought.
Dermot checked his watch and asked, "Time to clock out. What do you want for dinner?"
"You pick, I'm good with anything." Deciding on dinner every day was a pain for Evelyn.
"How about steak? Sound good?" Dermot didn't cook every day. He was kinda lazy, and even the best food gets boring if you have it all the time.
Evelyn thought for a sec and nodded. "Sure."
With that, Evelyn got up, ditched her white coat, changed into her own clothes, and walked out of the hospital with Dermot.
They thought Cassie had left, but nope, she was still at the entrance.
"Dermot, Dr. Kyte, heading out to eat? Let's go together," Cassie said, smiling like she had it all together.
Dermot frowned, about to lose it, when Cassie quickly added, "My brother's coming too. Dermot, don't you wanna know what really went down back then? He'll spill the beans."
