Chapter 1089: Farewell

Dermot and Craig didn't hang around the bar for long. After they left, Dermot headed back early to wait it out.

He'd already spread the word, and Joshua was bound to make a move. With such a big chip in his hand, Joshua wouldn't be able to keep his cool.

As night crept in, Tommy Cooper was squatting in a dark corner, feeling pretty hopeless.

It had been ages since he got nabbed, and he couldn't tell day from night anymore.

But even so, he kept his mouth shut about Joshua ordering him to kidnap Evelyn. He had faith in Joshua. He was sure Joshua would come to save him.

That trust was the only thing keeping him going. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived Margaret's brutal torture.

In the darkness, footsteps echoed, and Tommy tensed up.

"Dermot! What are you doing here again? I ain't saying nothing." He hadn't seen the person yet, but he guessed it was Dermot.

After all, this was Dermot's turf, and Dermot was dying to get him to spill.

The person didn't say a word, just kept walking closer until they reached the dungeon. By the moonlight, Tommy saw the figure dressed in black, with a mask and hat, making it impossible to tell who it was.

"Who are you?" Tommy asked, feeling a wave of unease.

Maybe worried Tommy would make too much noise, the person whispered, "Keep it down; I'm here to save you."

"Brandon!" Even though the person didn't say their name, Tommy recognized the voice right away.

His eyes welled up.

Joshua had really sent someone to save him.

His nightmare was finally coming to an end.

Brandon caught the hopeful look on Tommy's face and felt a pang of guilt, making it hard to meet his eyes.

He pulled out some lock-picking tools from his bag, and soon the dungeon door was open. "Tommy, you've been through hell."

"Brandon, as long as Mr. Garcia is okay, all my suffering is worth it!" Tommy was emotional. Not being abandoned meant everything to him.

Brandon looked at him, a flicker of sadness in his eyes. "Hurry up; we can't let anyone catch us."

Tommy nodded and moved ahead, not wanting to stay there a second longer.

Before he even stepped out of the dungeon, he saw Brandon raising a gun from the shadows. Without thinking, he dodged to the side.

The gunshot rang out, but the bullet missed him.

"Brandon! You…" Tommy was stunned. If he hadn't reacted in time, he'd be dead.

Brandon looked guilty, stepping closer to where Tommy was hiding. "Tommy, I have no choice. Mr. Garcia doesn't want you alive, and I can't save you."

"Why? I haven't said anything!" Tommy was confused. If he had spilled the beans, he could understand his boss wanting him dead. But he hadn't said a word, so why was Joshua still trying to kill him? Wasn't that too cold?

Brandon gave a bitter smile. "Once you got caught, it didn't matter if you talked or not."

Tommy got it and smiled.

So, this was the Joshua he trusted.

Tommy trusted Joshua, but Joshua didn't trust him at all.

"Tommy, goodbye. Every year at this time, I'll remember you." Brandon sighed, almost reaching Tommy.

At this point, there was no way out for him.

Tommy didn't want to run either. His long-held belief was shattered, and he couldn't accept it. Maybe dying like this wasn't so bad.

But while he wanted to die, Dermot didn't want him to.

Just as Brandon was about to pull the trigger, Dermot fired first, hitting Brandon in the shoulder. Brandon's gun clattered to the ground.
