Chapter 1023: He Is Very Nice

"If he hadn't brought it up, would you have stepped up?" Ruby rolled her eyes, thinking Evelyn must be clueless if she had.

Evelyn stayed quiet.

Truth is, if Joshua hadn't said anything, Evelyn wouldn't have offered to take care of him. But that didn't mean she wouldn't have cared; she just wouldn't have moved into his villa like she did now.

"Evelyn, you're still young. You need to think about your future," Ruby sighed, worried Evelyn might sacrifice her whole life for this.

As they talked, the waiter brought their food. Evelyn ate absentmindedly.

Seeing her like this, Ruby asked, "What about you and Dermot? Not long ago, things seemed good between you two. I thought you were ready to be with him."

"I was getting ready," Evelyn admitted, not hiding anything from Ruby. She felt confused and unsure of what to do.

Ruby was stunned and said, "Since you were planning to be with him, you definitely shouldn't stay by Joshua's side. No man would be okay with it."

Now that Evelyn had moved into Joshua's villa, it seemed like she was acting as his girlfriend.

"It's just because of this situation that I'm not with him," Evelyn said. If it weren't for this, and if Dermot had confessed, she would likely have agreed.

But things didn't go as planned.

"So what? Are you just going to let it go?" Ruby, who had seen Evelyn and Dermot's tough journey, couldn't believe it. If Dermot knew, he'd probably be devastated.

Evelyn took a bite and sighed, "For now, I really don't have a choice."

"You leave me speechless," Ruby said, looking at her with a mix of frustration and empathy. She wanted to scold Evelyn but couldn't, knowing Evelyn was just as much a victim of the situation.

Evelyn didn't want things to come to this, but what could she do? Sometimes life didn't go as planned.

"Let's not talk about it anymore," Evelyn said, waving her hand. "It's rare for us to have a meal together, so let's just enjoy it and not discuss these unpleasant things."

Ruby nodded and dropped the topic.

Evelyn thought of Alex and asked, "How are things between you and Alex recently? Do you have feelings for him?"

Ruby was taken aback, her cheeks slightly flushed. "He's pretty good."

Evelyn sensed there was more to the story and immediately followed up, "It seems like you two are getting along well?"

"Yeah, he's a really nice guy," Ruby admitted. Alex was her type, and he seemed like a genuinely good person with no obvious flaws. If she hadn't met Craig, she might have fallen for Alex a long time ago.

But her experience with Craig left her hesitant and somewhat afraid to start a new relationship.

"So, do you like him?" Evelyn asked directly, probing her heart.

Did she like Alex?

Ruby had thought about this question late at night but never found an answer. "I don't know." Indeed, she was happy when she was with Alex. But once they were apart, she often forgot to contact him, which left her feeling conflicted.

"What about Craig? Do you like him, or are you unsure?" Evelyn asked, trying to figure out who Ruby liked more.
