Chapter 284 Not Wanting to Owe You Too Much
Phoebe's situation temporarily came to an end. For Evelyn, although it was extremely dangerous, the rewards were equally great.
She researched the factory she had obtained and only then realized that Craig did a great job, earning nearly a few hundred million dollars in revenue each year, which surprised her. Even if she didn't do anything, everything remained the same, and she made a lot of money every year. For a moment, she felt a little embarrassed. She knew that Craig would eventually agree. In fact, Dermot had a lot to do with it. If it weren't for him, knowing Craig's personality, he would rather have a falling out with her than compromise.
Hesitant, she knocked on Dermot's hospital room door again. Opening the door, she saw that the man was not resting but dealing with company matters. "What's the matter?" Dermot thought something had happened when he saw her come in.
Evelyn walked over and handed Dermot the contract she and Craig had signed. "I looked into this factory and found that it makes a significant profit every year. Craig wouldn't have agreed if it wasn't for you."
"You don't have to worry about that. Phoebe, after all, is the Miss Irvine of the Irvine family, and she's not as worthless as you think," Dermot reassured.
"You have a 40% stake in this factory." Evelyn hadn't expected Dermot to have such a large share, thinking it was only around 5%.
Dermot closed his computer and smiled at her, saying, "It's okay. Craig will compensate me."
"You don't have to deceive me. It's already good enough that he's not asking you for compensation," Evelyn wasn't foolish. It was clear that Evelyn had gained the advantage in this transaction, so it was strange for Craig to compensate Dermot.
Dermot was somewhat surprised that she had thought of so much. "He doesn't lack this amount of money."
"Whether he lacks it or not is his business, and I don't care either." She wanted Craig to suffer a loss, and now it suited her just fine. However, it seemed that she owed Dermot a huge favor.
After hesitating for a moment, she spoke up, "Alright, let's keep your stake in the factory at 40%."
"No need," Dermot shook his head. "I haven't put much effort into this factory. Craig has been managing it all along."
"That was between you and him before. Now it's between you and me, and it's different," Evelyn didn't want to owe Dermot too much.
Whether he liked it or not, she still felt that their relationship should be more pure.
But Dermot didn't like it. The more Evelyn tried to make things clear, the worse he felt. "Evey, do we really have to calculate everything like this?"
"I'm not..."
"You make me feel like everything I've done is meaningless," he bitterly smiled, leaning against the head of the bed, feeling a little lost.
For some reason, he always felt like no matter what he did, it seemed to have no meaning to Evelyn. Her heart seemed to never warm up.
This made Evelyn uncomfortable, so she hurriedly explained, "That's not what I meant. I just don't want to owe you too much."
"Why? Because you don't like me?" Dermot didn't understand.
"Yeah," Evelyn nodded, but then shook her head. "To dislike someone, you have to be clear about it. To like someone, you have to be even clearer."
The man furrowed his brow, his mind filled with speculation but unable to confirm, "What do you mean?"
"Dermot, everyone in Moris City knows how outstanding you are. If I really were with you, I'm afraid people would think I'm not worthy of you. I don't want to be seen that way."
"Even if we're together, I would stand beside you, not behind you, understand?" Dermot replied.
Dermot was great, but Evelyn wanted everyone to know that she was not any less.
