Chapter 1246: What Do I Have to Explain

Craig sneered, "What’s there to explain? She’s dead set on thinking I jumped Alex. Even if I laid it all out, would she buy it?"

Evelyn kept quiet. She knew it was true; even if Craig spilled the beans, Ruby probably wouldn’t believe him.

"Alright, just focus on getting better. I'll take care of this," Dermot said. The only way to clear this mess was to find Alex.

Leaning against the headboard, Craig scoffed, "Honestly, I kinda hope Alex is really dead."

"Don't go there," Evelyn warned. If something really happened to Alex, even if Craig was innocent, Ruby might still not buy it.

At this point, Craig didn’t give a damn whether Ruby believed him or not. He just wanted Alex gone.

Evelyn didn’t stick around the hospital. She and Dermot split up; Dermot stayed while Evelyn went to track down Ruby.

Ruby was on the phone with the cops, desperate to find out where Alex was taken. She wanted to find him herself.

Luckily, Evelyn showed up just in time. A little later, and Ruby might’ve already been on a plane out of Golombia.

"Ruby!" Evelyn called out, panting.

Ruby was caught off guard but still asked, "Evelyn, why are you here? Any news on Alex?"

"Yeah, both the Kite and Doyle families have people looking for him. There’ll be news soon. Just hang tight and don’t get into any trouble," Evelyn said, pulling her back home. She didn’t want Ruby causing a scene while searching for Alex.

Ruby didn’t push back. She knew even if she went, she probably wouldn’t find him.

She had no choice but to lean on Evelyn and Dermot. With their help, finding Alex should be a done deal soon.

Evelyn took Ruby back to the Kite Apartment, and they had a long chat in the bedroom.

"Did you go see Craig?" Evelyn hesitated but had to ask.

Ruby nodded. She wasn’t surprised Evelyn knew everything. "I think Alex’s situation is tied to him."

"Ruby, it wasn’t Craig,” Evelyn explained, seeing Ruby’s confused look. “Dermot and I talked to the cops. The attackers were from a gang Alex was investigating. They were desperate since he was close to busting them, so they took a shot at him."

Ruby was stunned.

It wasn’t Craig?

"But when I confronted him, he didn’t deny it," Ruby said, her confidence shaking.

Craig didn’t deny it, but did that mean he did it?

Ruby bit her lip, feeling a heavy weight in her chest.

"Craig’s still in the hospital," Evelyn reminded her. Even though she didn’t like Craig either, Ruby was wrong this time. Plus, she worried Craig might hold a grudge. She thought if Ruby visited Craig, it might smooth things over.

Ruby got what she meant but shook her head. "I’m not visiting him. Even if he didn’t do it this time, he definitely had the intention. So, I don’t think he’s wronged."

"Ruby."

"Evelyn, any leads on Alex?" Ruby cut her off. She didn’t want to hear anything about Craig.

Evelyn sighed and said, "We’ve got some leads now. The cops and our people are on it. We should find Alex soon."

This time, both the cops and their team were all over it, leaving the gang with no way out.
