Chapter 771 Letting Go of Obsession
Lisa cleared her throat. She knew what Geoffrey was thinking. "Geoffrey, I know you're a capable person with unfulfilled ambitions, so you're always striving to climb higher.
"But I hope you understand that we're all ordinary people, and we have our own way of living. You don't have to climb higher to get by.
"I hope you can let go of your obsession, do your job well, and not focus on other things," Lisa said sincerely, and Geoffrey listened.
However, he didn't understand why Lisa was saying so much to him.
Sensing his puzzled look, Lisa blushed slightly and stammered, "Actually, I think you're pretty good. It's just that you were a bit arrogant before, and I didn't like that."
The implication was that if Geoffrey could change, she would be willing to give him a chance.
Geoffrey smiled, genuinely not knowing what to say.
It was probably one of those situations where the things he didn't try to achieve end up succeeding.
"I understand." Geoffrey nodded as he realized that he had to change his previous mindset.
He always thought about marrying a good wife, or even a rich man's daughter, to achieve a social leap. Now, he felt it was actually quite pathetic.
"Are you free tonight? I'll treat you," Geoffrey said. "Let's have dinner first, and then watch a movie."
Previously, he thought Lisa was just a sophisticated girl, but after the incident, his view of her had changed.
Lisa smiled and nodded, which indicating agreement.
The two chatted happily, and during this time, Geoffrey even gave up his feelings for Evelyn. But Evelyn, who was chatting with Joshua, had no idea.
"Joshua, is everything going smoothly with Aidan?" Evelyn didn't understand much about business, so she didn't know how Aidan's company was coming along.
She had heard that Aidan was just moving the headquarters from Moris City, and would probably settle in Golombia in the future.
But settling down in Golombia wasn't that easy.
Joshua nodded. "It's going well. You know Aidan's capabilities, so don't be worried."
"That's true." Evelyn nodded as she trusted Aidan's abilities.
She looked up at Joshua. "Joshua, you said you came back to help Aidan set up the company, but you seem very free."
Joshua came to visit Evelyn almost every day, which didn't seem like he was working.
"No choice, Aidan is too capable, and there's no place for me to be useful." He smiled, not minding the doubt in Evelyn's eyes.
After all, Aidan had him come back to pursue Evelyn, and as for work, he wasn't in a hurry.
Evelyn looked skeptical, but even though she was puzzled, she didn't ask much. She just said, "Actually, you don't have to come see me every day. There's nothing much going on here."
"Definitely not. Those mercenaries are still missing, and who knows what they're planning. I have to protect you," Joshua refused. Since he promised to protect Evelyn, he had to do it properly.
At the mention of the mercenaries, Evelyn also became worried. "Still no sign of them? The Roberts family has already gone bankrupt, where could they be hiding?"
"I don't know." Joshua shook his head, then added, "But the Roberts family's bankruptcy doesn't mean they have no power left. The wealth they've accumulated over the years is enough to support their family for several generations."
