Chapter 759 Why Can't You Just Die?
Evelyn had been in the hospital for about a week, and during this time, the Roberts family had go bankrupt. She didn't care about it; Blake and Wade had been preparing for so long, they would surely handle the Roberts family.
On the day she was about to be discharged, a patient was admitted to the hospital and specifically asked for Evelyn. Although she was on leave, she went to take a look upon hearing the news.
"Emerald?" Seeing the person on the hospital bed, Evelyn was a bit surprised. She hadn't expected to see Emerald again.
Despite Emerald's previous threats of revenge, Evelyn hadn't taken it to heart. After all, she believed Emerald couldn't do much.
"I heard you were almost killed?" Emerald asked as she looked at Evelyn. Her face was pale, perhaps due to her illness.
Although her illness had been cured through surgery, her body was still not as strong as a healthy person's. She needed to take medication constantly and couldn't handle too much stress.
Evelyn said with a frown, "What do you want to say?"
"How come you're so lucky? Why can't you just die?" Emerald looked at Evelyn without hiding her hatred at all.
Evelyn chuckled. Before she could respond, Emerald continued, "You caused Nathan's death and feel no remorse at all. Do people like you consider our lives as insignificant?"
"Nathan brought trouble upon himself. What does that have to do with me?" Evelyn didn't think she had done anything wrong.
Although Evelyn hadn't initially expected Nathan to commit suicide in prison, what difference did it make? It didn't change the fact that he had attacked her.
In that situation, it was either Nathan getting caught or Evelyn being killed by Nathan. Evelyn had no hesitation.
When she heard Evelyn's words, Emerald's hatred grew even stronger. "In the end, Nathan was just a pawn. Why don't you go after the mastermind instead of taking it out on Nathan?"
"I wanted to find the mastermind, but Nathan refused to reveal who it was. What could I do?" Honestly, if Nathan had exposed Natalie, Evelyn might have pleaded for him. After all, she did admire Nathan once.
Emerald clearly didn't know this. Seeing her reaction, Evelyn sneered and continued, "Nathan didn't reveal the mastermind because he thought they would save you after his death.
"But he was too naive. After he died, no one cared about you in the hospital."
Emerald was shocked, "Impossible."
She thought, 'If no one cared about me, who paid for my surgery?'
"At the time, I felt sorry for Nathan and pitied you, so I had someone pay for your surgery. I thought I was saving your life, but who knew I'd end up with an enemy." Evelyn chuckled.
Emerald's face turned pale as she was unwilling to believe that Evelyn had saved her. "You're lying. It was Natalie who paid."
"So, you know she's the mastermind." Evelyn sneered.
Emerald didn't refute, and Evelyn continued, "If Natalie were so kind, Nathan wouldn't have died in prison.
"Of course, I'm not saying this to seek your gratitude. I don't care. I just don't want you to be used as a pawn," Evelyn added.
At first, Evelyn hadn't thought much about it, but later she realized something was off.
She thought, 'How does Emerald know Nathan died because of me? Someone must have told her. And that person was most likely Natalie.'
