Chapter 669 I Won't Marry Her
The Allen family's living room was as quiet as could be, no one dared to even breathe heavily.
Wade hung his head. For the first time in over twenty years, he had failed so miserably.
"Everyone is here, so let's all discuss what to do," Harold Johnson spoke up, as Wade's father, even though he didn't usually involve himself in the Allen family's affairs, with this situation at hand, naturally had to step forward.
The Allen family was considered a rather large clan. Apart from Harold's lineage, several other uncles' lineages were present in the living room, making it quite crowded.
However, no one spoke up. They were merely dependent on the Allen family, so regardless of Harold's decisions, they had no right to oppose.
The real individuals with the opportunity to speak were the older members of the Allen family.
Wade's eldest uncle, Jerry Allen, was the first to speak, his face stern as he glared at Wade. "How could you do such a stupid thing? Look at how people online are saying about our family!"
He always valued the reputation of the Allen family; hence, he was the angriest among them.
"Jerry, Wade didn't do it on purpose; he was clearly manipulated by Lucia." Wade's second uncle, Billy Allen, also spoke up, not seeing any fault in Wade.
Wade listened but remained silent.
He knew he had made a mistake, so no matter what they said, even if they decided to strip him of his right to manage the Allen family, he stayed quiet.
However, there was one thing Wade was firm about.
"Dad, Uncle Jerry, and Uncle Billy, this is my fault. I was careless and let someone deceiving me." Wade looked at the three of them and continued, "No matter what decision you make regarding me, I will accept it, but..."
Wade paused for a moment, then said seriously, "I will absolutely not marry Lucia."
Upon hearing this, Jerry and Harold frowned, clearly not entirely in agreement.
Only Billy supported him, but his support seemed weak and lacked persuasiveness in such a situation.
"With such this big scandal, how do you intend to settle things without marrying her?" Harold spoke, just like Wade's eldest uncle. He still valued the reputation of the Allen family.
Wade lowered his gaze, insisting, "Regardless, I will not marry her. If necessary, the Allen family can find someone else to take over."
In this way, even Lucia probably wouldn't insist on marrying him.
"Nonsense!" Harold angrily exclaimed, knowing how much effort he had put into getting Wade to his current position.
Although they were all sitting here as a family at the moment, when they were competing for the leadership position of the Allen family, no one had given in to anyone.
The atmosphere became tense, seemingly with no one able to persuade the other.
Just then, the butler walked in with a phone in hand, standing next to Harold, and whispering, "Mr. Johnson, a call from the Smith family."
Though his voice was low, in the quiet living room, everyone heard it clearly.
All eyes turned to the phone, including Wade's.
He didn't know what Blake would decide, but he had a vague sense of unease.
Harold sighed, then answered the call from Blake. Whatever was said on the other end, Harold's expression grew increasingly grim.
After a while, the call ended, and Harold looked at Wade. "The Kyte family wants you to take responsibility."
"Impossible!" Wade immediately refused without hesitation, feeling a bit resentful towards Blake.
"You need to think carefully. The Kyte family and the Allen family are currently in a cooperative phase. If you refuse, the previous cooperation will likely come to an end, and you'll gain another enemy in the Kyte family. They might even join forces with the Roberts family against us." Harold saw through the situation, understanding how far a father could do for his child.
