Chapter 48 Did You Really Get Divorced?
The next morning, Evelyn tiredly got out of bed after being tormented by stomach pain all night, and she didn't want to miss breakfast because of oversleeping.
Just as she was walking towards the kitchen, the doorbell rang unexpectedly. She wondered who would be coming to see her so early in the morning?
With some doubt, she walked over and opened the door.
When she saw that it was Dermot on the other side, she was almost shocked enough to drop her jaw.
What was this man doing here again?
"Have you had breakfast?" Dermot spoke up.
Evelyn shook her head. Just as she was curious about what he wanted, he came in carrying a takeaway box with "Zhou Zhi Wei" written clearly on it.
Evelyn knew Zhou Zhi Wei; it was a very famous restaurant in Jincheng, known for their delicious porridge. She had always wanted to try it.
So...
Dermot wouldn't have come specifically to bring her breakfast, would he?
"Eat up, it's still hot," the man said, already placing the porridge on the dining table.
Evelyn didn't move, she stood there for a long time before confirming that this wasn't her imagination, "You...came specifically to bring me breakfast?"
"Don't overthink it, I happened to be getting breakfast too, so I ordered an extra one," the man replied, his voice cold, devoid of any emotion.
Was she overthinking things?
She hesitantly walked over and looked at the steaming porridge in front of her. It still felt unreal to her, "I didn't expect Mr. Doyle to be so kind."
She said this somewhat sarcastically, not really meaning what she said.
However, Dermot didn't pick up on it, a hint of a smile flickering across his lips, "It's your poor eyesight. I've always been very kind."
Ha, she thought sarcastically in her heart.
The two of them sat face to face and drank their porridge, neither one speaking.
Suddenly, Evelyn remembered the information she had found last night and couldn't help but glance at Dermot, who happened to catch her gaze.
"Say what's on your mind," he said.
Seeing this, Evelyn didn't hold back, "Why isn't Mr. Doyle accompanying Ms. Ackers? Aren't you afraid she'll get jealous?"
Dermot put down his spoon and looked at Evelyn seriously. He rarely acted so solemnly, "Cassie and I don't have that kind of relationship. I treat her like a sister."
A sister?
Perhaps a romantic sister?
"Is that how Ms. Ackers sees it too?" she asked.
"Why are you suddenly asking about her?" Dermot clearly felt that something was off with Evelyn. She wasn't usually one for gossip.
Evelyn fell silent, not intending to tell Dermot about what she looked up last night.
If Cassie dared to slander her behind her back, then she would definitely repay her properly.
However, it wasn't necessary for Dermot to know about all this. After all, he was helping Cassie; telling him would be nothing short of asking for trouble.
She kept quiet, and Dermot didn't press further. Instead, he changed the topic and asked, "Did you really get divorced?"
When they met at the Pear Garden, she had used divorce as an excuse to reject a doctor from their department. At the time, he thought it was just an excuse, but the information Craig found last night made him realize that it wasn't just an excuse, it was the truth.
Evelyn glanced at him, and when she heard him ask the question, she realized that he must have found out about her divorce.
She wasn't surprised, but was surprised that he already knew about it. He must have known her name, yet he didn't know that she was his ex-wife.
It seemed like he really hadn't cared about his wife of two years, not even enough to know her name.
"Yes," she nodded.
"You..." Dermot wanted to ask something, but it wasn't easy to bring himself to do it.
"What does Mr. Doyle want to know?" Evelyn finished her breakfast, put down her chopsticks, and looked at him with a smile on her face.
Dermot hesitated for a moment before saying, "I just never thought that the great Dr. Kyte could be so unappreciated."
