Chapter 881 Whatever You Say
Evelyn cleared her throat, feeling a bit awkward.
During Dermot's hospital stay, he had often invited her out to eat, but she always turned him down. She didn't expect him to bring it up now.
Evelyn thought, 'Turns out men can be petty, too, huh?'
She went silent. The cafeteria food was actually pretty good. She thought it was fine, and whether Dermot could get used to it wasn't her concern.
"This morning, I saw Randy at the hospital. He was here to see you, right?" Evelyn asked curiously.
Dermot nodded. "Evelyn, you say you don't care about me, but in reality, you do. Haven't you noticed?"
Evelyn shot back. "Who cares about you? Randy made such a big scene at the hospital. As long as I'm not blind, of course, I saw it."
Everyone in the hospital was talking about it. Even if she hadn't seen it herself, she would have heard about it later.
Dermot didn't care about her denial. He continued, "He was here to see me. He caught two people who killed Gerald and expects me to interrogate them personally."
Evelyn instantly tensed up. "They won't rat you out, will they?"
Dermot looked at her quietly.
Evelyn felt awkward again. "I was just asking casually, definitely not because I care about you."
"Sure, whatever you say." Dermot didn't plan to argue with her. He knew that Evelyn just wasn't ready to admit it yet.
Evelyn pouted. Just then, the food arrived, easing her awkwardness a bit. "You still haven't answered me. Will they rat you out?"
"Don't worry. They won't," Dermot said. Those who were caught didn't even know he was the mastermind, so how could they rat him out?
Of course, if they ratted out Joshua, it would be troublesome. After all, he had been close with Joshua recently, which would make him highly suspicious.
Since Dermot said they wouldn't, Evelyn didn't ask further. Dermot was so confident; there probably wouldn't be any issues.
They ate quietly while many hospital staff nearby stole glances at them.
The story of Evelyn and Dermot had long been the talk of the hospital. Everyone knew they were ex-spouses and were curious about their current relationship.
Of course, they were only curious in private. No one dared to ask them directly.
After all, one was already the head of the Kyte family, and the other had the potential to become the head of the Doyle family. Either one of them was not to be messed with.
Not far away, Geoffrey's gaze was unconsciously drawn to Evelyn. But after just a few seconds, someone next to him slapped him. "Geoffrey, what are you looking at?"
"Lisa, I wasn't looking at Evelyn."
"Don't kid yourself. You weren't worthy of Evelyn before, and you're even less so now," Lisa said bluntly, finding his greedy behavior quite detestable.
Lisa thought, 'We are dating, yet he is still thinking about Evelyn. Has he ever taken our relationship seriously?'
Geoffrey didn't argue. He smiled at Lisa. "You're overthinking it. I was just curious. I promise I had no other intentions."
"Really?" Lisa was suspicious of it.
Geoffrey nodded repeatedly. "Really, I know myself. Besides, I'm already dating you. I'm very content and not interested in other women."
He wasn't really uninterested; he didn't dare to be.
Lisa's possessiveness was no joke. If he ever glanced at a nurse in the hospital too frequently, she would argue with him for two hours at home. How could he dare have any other thoughts?
