Chapter 1287: How About Solving Your Family's Troubles First
So, it was noon, and Lily was back at the hospital, skipping lunch and all. When Aidan showed up, she was already hanging around the ICU entrance.
Aidan just brushed her off and made a call to Evelyn. Once he heard they were on their way, he didn't bother saying much else.
"Is Evelyn coming?" Lily asked, all nervous, looking at Aidan. Even though Aidan had never really done anything to her, she couldn’t help but feel a bit scared of him.
Lily used to think it didn't matter if Aidan didn't like her, as long as Niall did. But now, after everything that had happened, she wasn't so sure anymore.
Aidan gave her a quick glance, nodded, and then went silent.
Seeing Aidan wasn't in the mood to chat, Lily wisely kept her mouth shut and just sat there.
About half an hour later, Evelyn and Dermot showed up at the hospital and headed straight for the ICU entrance.
Evelyn was pissed for no reason when she saw Aidan. "Didn't you say it was just a minor injury? If it's so minor, why's Niall in the ICU?"
Being a doctor herself, Evelyn knew only seriously ill patients ended up in the ICU. It hit her that Aidan had lied about it being a minor injury on the phone.
Sensing her anger, Aidan quickly said, "Chill out. He's fine; he's not gonna die."
"Aidan!" Evelyn was pretty annoyed.
Aidan didn't hold back and said straight up, "He was being an idiot and got himself into trouble. Who else can you blame for that?"
Evelyn was stunned. She still didn't know the full story. She looked at Aidan, confused, then at Lily, who was just standing there quietly.
Lily stayed silent, so Aidan took the lead and explained what had happened. Of course, he made it sound like it was mostly Lily's fault, while Niall was just being foolish.
Lily didn't argue; she felt it was all her fault too.
After hearing the whole story, Evelyn felt a headache coming on. She waved her hand. "I'll go talk to the doctor about his condition. We'll deal with everything else when Niall wakes up."
"Okay." Aidan didn't stop her. He knew Evelyn wouldn't rest easy without getting the full scoop from the doctor.
Dermot went with Evelyn to the doctor's office, leaving just Lily and Aidan at the ICU.
Seeing that Lily wasn't planning to leave, Aidan was a bit annoyed, "Now that Evelyn and I are here, you don't need to stick around."
"Aidan, I'm Niall's girlfriend."
"Just a girlfriend, not a wife," Aidan cut in, all disdainful. He really didn’t want Lily hanging around Niall anymore.
Lily bit her lip, and Aidan continued, "Instead of staying here, you should go deal with your family's mess."
This time, Lily didn’t argue.
She stood up, ready to leave. "I get it."
She really did need to sort out her problems. At the very least, she needed to figure out why they were treating her this way. Did they really never see her as their daughter?
By the time Evelyn and Dermot got back, Lily was already gone. "Where is she?" Evelyn asked.
"She left," Aidan replied, not offering any more details.
His tone was cold, like he didn’t want to talk about Lily at all. Evelyn noticed his attitude and said straight up, "Aidan, even if this started because of Lily, it's not her fault. She didn’t choose her parents, and you don’t need to take it out on her."
Aidan said, "She can't choose her parents, but she can choose to stay away from Niall. Would Niall have gotten hurt if it wasn't for her?"
