Chapter 1292: What Gives Him the Right to Say It's Worth It

Evelyn saw Aidan looking all down and out, and she jumped in, "Aidan, I get it, you're doing this for Niall, but he's a grown-up now. We can't be making choices for him, you know?"

Aidan just shrugged and waved her off. "Alright, let's head back."

With that, Aidan took off, vanishing from Evelyn's view.

Maybe he needed his own life too, so he wouldn't always be stuck on Evelyn and Niall, always stressing they'd end up with the wrong crowd, always playing the big brother role like a dad, worrying way too much.

Watching Aidan walk away, Evelyn felt a pang of guilt. She muttered, "Was I too harsh just now?"

Dermot wrapped his arms around her from behind and said, "Nah, you were spot on. Aidan's the one not getting it. He's trying to play dad, guiding you, but he's barely older and doesn't have the experience. So, you're not wrong."

Even with Dermot's reassurance, Evelyn still felt down.

Seeing her mood, Dermot quickly switched gears, "Evelyn, can you cut me some slack first? I haven't had dinner yet, and I'm starving."

Right on cue, his stomach growled.

Evelyn then realized they hadn't eaten. They'd rushed to the hospital straight from the plane and hadn't had a bite.

"Sorry for dragging you into this and making you go hungry." Evelyn felt a bit sheepish. "Let's go grab something good to eat. My treat."

"Sweet, thanks a lot." Dermot grinned, taking Evelyn's hand as they left the hospital.

They left, but inside the ward, things between Niall and Lily were anything but chill.

"Lily, what's up? Why so quiet?" Niall hadn't heard a peep from Lily since he woke up.

Lily still didn't say a word, and Niall started to worry. "Are you scared? Don't worry, I swear this won't happen again."

Lily finally looked at him. "How can you promise that? This wasn't even your fault."

"Lily."

"This had nothing to do with you. You didn't need to risk your life for me. You almost died, do you get that?" Lily was fuming, her eyes red as she stared at Niall lying there.

Niall was taken aback but quickly said, "Don't worry, I still want to be with you forever. Nothing's gonna happen to me."

With that, all the things Lily had planned to say just felt pointless.

Tears started streaming down Lily's face, and Niall got anxious. He wanted to reach out and wipe them away but couldn't.

"Lily, don't cry. It makes me feel awful." He didn't know why she was crying, but whatever the reason, it tore him up inside.

Lily wiped her eyes, trying to stop the tears. "I just think you're too foolish. Was it worth risking your life for me?"

"Of course, it was worth it." Niall blurted out without hesitation.

To Niall, saving Lily was worth any risk.

Lily thought he was being an idiot.

Why did he think it was worth it?

Someone like her didn't deserve such a sacrifice.

She cried even harder, making Niall more frantic. "Lily, don't cry. Did someone mess with you? Tell me, and I'll handle it."
