Chapter 537 Deal with It Yourself
Evelyn expected Dermot to nod and admit pain, but instead, he shook his head. "It doesn't hurt."
He truly didn't feel the pain, especially not with Evelyn applying the balm. The discomfort was the last thing on his mind.
When she heard his denial, Evelyn couldn't help but pinch a bruise firmly, eliciting a painful cry from Dermot.
"Evey! What was that for?" he asked, baffled for having seemingly misspoken.
"Now, does it hurt?" she questioned him again.
This time, Dermot didn't dare deny the pain and merely nodded. "Yes, it hurts. A lot."
With a cold snort, Evelyn said, "Good, you should feel the pain and learn your lesson. Don't think you're still in Moris City. You could get yourself killed out here, for real."
"How did you know?" Dermot asked curiously. He was sure Blake wouldn't have spilled the beans to Evelyn.
Evelyn didn't answer his question and continued, "I know you're used to walking tall, but now that you're in Colombia, you might want to tone it down a bit. Luck isn’t always going to be on your side."
"So now you're lecturing me," Dermot replied with a hint of resignation. He didn't think he was that arrogant. It was just that he felt confident enough to take certain risks.
He knew even if he tried to explain this to Evelyn, she probably wouldn't believe him. He decided to let her have a few words on the matter. After all, it was her way of showing she cared.
"I'm not lecturing you. I'm looking out for you." Evelyn said. She wondered if Dermot had any concept of restraint.
He nodded. "I know. Don't worry. I won’t cause you any trouble."
Hearing that, Evelyn stopped applying the ointment. Her expression was stern as she faced him. "Dermot, do you really think that’s why I’m here?"
"Evey, I didn’t mean that. I...," he said.
"Fine, consider it me being nosy. From now on, I'll mind my own business. It’s not like we have anything to do with each other." With that, she turned to leave. She shouldn't have come in the first place.
It didn't matter to her if he got hurt or worse.
Seeing her about to walk away, Dermot quickly got up and grabbed her wrist. "Evey, don't be mad. I didn't mean it that way. I want you to feel secure knowing I have everything under control."
She couldn't leave with Dermot holding onto her wrist, so she turned back to look at him and reluctantly said, "You've made enemies with the Kyte family, and the Roberts family won’t let you off easily either. Offending two of the top ten families in Colombia..."
The mere thought made Evelyn worried about future complications. "Maybe you should go back to Moris City. You've got your own turf there, so it won't be so easy for them to harm you."
"Evey, don't underestimate me. I might not be able to take them down, but it won’t be a piece of cake for them to do so either," he said resolutely. Dermot hadn't climbed his way up without having the means to back it.
Seeing his determination, Evelyn had no more arguments. "So you've really decided to move the Doyle Group headquarters to Colombia?"
"Yeah, there are better opportunities here," he said. But what mattered most was that Evelyn was here. So, he had to be here.
"Fine, do what you want," she conceded.
Evelyn refrained from further attempts to dissuade him and finally said, "I'll handle the Kyte family so they won't make a move on you. As for the Roberts family... you'll have to figure that out on your own."
If the Kyte family wouldn't stand up for Lucia, Dora was sure to take matters to the Roberts family.
