Chapter 492 Did She Upset You?
That afternoon, Dermot made his way to Columbia. His trip wasn't voluntary—he'd come at Evelyn's request. Ella remained in Moris City, and needing his assistance, Evelyn had asked for a small favor: to have Ella brought to her. It was unexpected, however, that he would come himself.
Meeting him at the airport, Evelyn felt a mixture of emotions, gratitude among them. "Why come all this way yourself? You could've just sent someone," she remarked.
"I don't trust others to handle it, and it wasn't much of an inconvenience," Dermot replied while assisting Ella into the car. Evelyn understood that his talk of distrust in others was just an excuse—his real concern was for her safety. She took note of his kindness, without making a fuss.
On the drive, Dermot took them to a house he'd purchased in Columbia. With Ella in tow, a hotel stay would be inconvenient. Evelyn didn't object, following Dermot to his place, she couldn't help but comment, "I don't know how often I’ll be back in Columbia, maybe I should get a place too, for convenience."
"No need, you can stay here whenever you come," Dermot offered, handing her the keys without hesitation.
Evelyn held the keys in her palm, pondering what to do with this man. Their gaze met, the air between them thick with an unspoken chemistry. Just as Dermot was about to speak, testing the waters to see if Evelyn had forgiven him, Ella's discontent broke the moment.
"Hey, can you two consider my feelings for a second? It's like I'm invisible here," she said, hurt evident in her voice.
Dermot had been in a deep sulk the entire trip, with a gloomy expression as if he had serious troubles on his mind. But the moment he saw Evelyn, he lit up with a smile that was so instant, she couldn't help but wonder if something was off with him.
Dermot's mood was understandably darkened by the interruption, but with Evelyn present, he managed to keep his anger in check. He simply shot Ella a cold glance, filing this away in his memory.
Ella shivered, feeling targeted and uneasy.
Regaining her composure, Evelyn cleared her throat to ease the awkwardness. "Let's go in."
"Okay."
The trio entered the room. After making sure Ella was left inside, Dermot returned to the living room to join Evelyn. "Did you bring her here to confront the Kyte family?" he asked.
"Yeah." Evelyn didn't deny it, continuing, "I met the Kyte's daughter today. She’s pretty interesting."
Interesting?
Dermot sensed that 'interesting' might not mean anything good in Evelyn’s terms.
"Did she upset you?" Dermot inquired, already conjuring a hundred ways to torment Lucia in his mind.
Seeming to know what he was pondering, Evelyn glanced at him and promptly cautioned, "We're in Columbia, don't act rashly."
She was worried about Dermot causing trouble. After all, the Doyle family were no big deal in Columbia, and if they managed to offend someone, the consequences could be dire.
She meant to express concern, but to Dermot, it felt like Evelyn doubted his strength.
He felt a heavy silence within him but said nothing.
Evelyn was oblivious to the turmoil inside him; had she known, she surely would have phrased her concern differently.
"Do you need my help?" Dermot offered, eager to be of use to Evelyn.
But in this matter, Dermot was of little help.
Evelyn shook her head. "No, I can handle it."
Dermot acknowledged with a 'hmm', yet his heart was anything but calm. Never before had he felt such an urgent desire to grow stronger.
