Chapter 510 I Have My Plan

The following day, Evelyn left the Kyte mansion early. When Blake and the others arrived at the dining room, her presence was notably absent.

“Where’s Evelyn?” he inquired of the butler.

“The Lady left early this morning, sir. She mentioned she had matters to attend to and asked that you not wait up for her,” the butler informed him.

After Blake had announced Evelyn's identity, she had taken up the mantle of the Lady of the Kyte family, while Lucia naturally assumed the role of the younger Miss.

Blake simply nodded, not probing further; he knew Evelyn had her own affairs to attend to.

Dora, on the other hand, was not pleased and snidely remarked, “What could she be busy with so early in the morning? It's not like she's meeting with some unsavory characters, is it?”

“Not to speak out of turn, but now that Evelyn is the Lady of the Kyte family, she ought to exercise a bit more discretion in her dealings.”

It was clear that Dora was insinuating Evelyn’s humble origins and an unrefined way of doing things were beneath her.
Blake glanced at her, his voice icy, "You think Evelyn's been loafing around like your daughter? She's made a name for herself without any help from the Kyte family all these years. She's a renowned doctor in Moris City, even performed surgery on old Grandpa Doyle of the Baker family, and owns her own company."

Dora choked on her words, deeply irritated, "Who even knows if that’s true? And her company, didn’t she get that through some man? She's divorced, for heaven's sake. Everyone in Moris City knows her ex-husband had some clout. Who’s to say she didn’t ride on his coattails?"

Dora had dug up everything on Evelyn and had already spread the information. Now, Evelyn was the laughingstock of the entire Columbian elite. Raised in the countryside and a divorcee to boot - even if the Kyte family took her back, even if she became the Kyte family lady, people would still look down on her.

With a sharp slap, Blake’s chopsticks thundered onto the table as he glared at Dora, "It seems my warnings went in one ear and out the other."

Dora felt a twinge of fear. After sensing the stance of the Roberts family, on whom she had hoped to rely - she was sorely disappointed. They seemed more interested in currying favor with Blake than in her well-being. She suspected that if Blake so wished, he could take her down and the Roberts would remain silent.

At this point, it wasn’t in her best interest to cross Blake. "I was just speaking my mind," she mumbled, with no intention of arguing.

If she was going to take action against Evelyn, she couldn't let Blake find out—especially not now. She couldn't afford to make her hostility obvious.

"Hmph, you’d better be just talking. If I find you meddling behind my back, there might no longer be a place for you in the Kyte household," Blake warned before standing up and leaving the dining room, his appetite gone.

After his departure, only Dora and Lucia remained. Lucia was still simmering from Evelyn's reprimand the previous night. She felt as though Evelyn was a devil in disguise—smiling sweetly while delivering a painful blow.

But Lucia was not about to let it go; she had to do something, especially at tonight's party. Ideally, she'd find a way to embarrass Evelyn, making sure everyone knew that she, Lucia, was the true heiress of the Kytes; Evelyn was just a daughter who couldn't hold a candle to her.
"Lucia, you've got to bring your A-game tonight; you can't let Evelyn outshine you," Dora instructed, her voice carrying the weight of the evening's importance—it was Evelyn's debut appearance in Columbia.

"Mom, trust me, I've got this," Lucia said, brimming with confidence. The very thought of coming in second to Evelyn didn't sit well with her; she was determined to stand out.
