Chapter 1008: I Thought There Was a Burglar in Your House
Dermot's words left Margaret speechless.
If Evelyn was going to care for Joshua forever, there wasn't much Margaret could do.
Just as she felt stuck, Dermot said, "I can help you take over the Martin family."
Margaret's eyes lit up. "You agree?"
"You want the Martin family? If I get the Doyle family, then you get the Martin family. We both win. So, make the Martin family cause trouble for the Doyle family now, got it?" Dermot told her.
Margaret was momentarily stunned but quickly caught on.
The Doyle family was already in chaos, and more trouble would overwhelm James.
But Margaret had her own issues. "I don't have much influence in the Martin family."
"That's your problem. If you can't help me, why should I help you?" Dermot said, then started his car and drove off, ignoring Margaret.
Margaret stood there, dazed for a long time.
She gritted her teeth and finally made up her mind, then left.
In the following days, Evelyn stayed at the hospital with Joshua, and Dermot didn't bother her. He was busy investigating and contacting top doctors.
Half a month flew by, and there were only three days left until the New Year.
Golombia was covered in heavy snow. Dermot came home late after socializing and noticed Evelyn's door was open.
Evelyn had been at the hospital and hadn't been home, so the open door was odd.
"Evelyn?" he called out.
No answer. Dermot instantly became alert.
He stepped into the lit living room, but it was empty.
Hearing a noise from the bedroom, Dermot frowned and moved toward it.
When he opened the door and saw a naked Evelyn, he was stunned.
A scream followed, and a pillow was thrown at him, which he didn't dodge.
"Sorry, the door was open. I thought there was a burglar," he said, quickly looking away, though he had already seen everything.
Evelyn quickly dressed, feeling speechless.
She had just come out of the bathroom without clothes, not expecting Dermot to walk in.
After dressing, she cleared her throat. "I didn't close the door?"
"No," Dermot replied.
She must have been in a hurry and didn't notice the door wasn't shut.
So, it wasn't Dermot's fault.
Evelyn nodded. "Okay."
Dermot wasn't sure if she was angry or not.
He looked back at Evelyn, now dressed but with wet hair. "Why did you come back suddenly?"
"Joshua was discharged," she said, then went to find a hairdryer.
Dermot followed her and took the hairdryer. "I'll help you."
Evelyn opened her mouth but didn't refuse.
So, Evelyn sat while Dermot dried her hair, and the atmosphere was surprisingly calm.
