Chapter 1224: Hope to Help Him Then

Nathaniel's crimes were so bad that his trial was over in a flash. Evelyn didn't even bother showing up, just caught bits and pieces from the news.

At first, Nathaniel kept saying he was innocent, his denials bouncing around the courtroom. But when the prosecution dropped some rock-solid evidence of his murders, he finally shut up.

He wasn't quiet 'cause he felt guilty, though. Nah, he realized something big.

The fact that the prosecution had this dirt meant there was a snitch in the Flores family, someone who ratted him out.

As Nathaniel tried to figure out who the rat was, the court called a witness, and in walked Oscar. That's when it all clicked.

Oscar took the stand and spilled the beans about Nathaniel's killings and a bunch of other shady stuff he did.

Nathaniel didn't even try to argue. The second Oscar showed up, he knew he was toast.

But right then, he didn't give a damn about any of that.

Nathaniel locked eyes with Oscar and shot him a look, "Why?"

Nathaniel couldn't wrap his head around why Oscar, a Flores, would screw over the family. Didn't he get that spilling the beans could wreck them?

Oscar just said, "I think the Flores Group needs a fresh start." Sure, the Flores family was top dog in Seabrook City, but they were dirty as hell. In the end, it wouldn't end well.

Oscar had his chance now, and he wasn't gonna blow it.

Nathaniel got what he meant, let out a little laugh, and didn't argue.

The verdict came down fast. Nathaniel's crimes were off the charts, and no surprise, he got the death penalty.

Before he was hauled off, Nathaniel had one last thing to say to Oscar, "I hope the Flores family can thrive under your leadership. I hope you won't regret today's decision."

Oscar didn't say a word.

He was sure he wouldn't regret it.

Even if the Flores Group never hit the same highs, at least they'd be clean.

Nathaniel's execution was set for three months later. Before that, Bella came to see him once.

But they didn't say much.

"Sometimes I wonder, what do I lack compared to Blake? Why were you so set on leaving me?" After a long silence, Nathaniel couldn't help but ask.

Bella looked at him, not sure how to judge Nathaniel.

He was about to die, and he was still hung up on this? Did it even matter?

"Love's weird like that. If you weren't so obsessed, maybe things wouldn't have ended up like this." Bella looked at him coldly; she had no feelings left for Nathaniel.

During her time with him, she'd seen too much blood and had cursed him countless times, hoping he'd meet a bad end.

And he did.

Nathaniel chuckled, "Yeah, but I couldn't help it. From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were my wife."

He couldn't get how, even though he met Bella first, she ended up with Blake.

"But there's no point in talking about this now. Since you came to see me one last time, I have a favor to ask." Nathaniel smiled, not wanting to dwell on pointless stuff.

Bella stayed quiet and looked at him.

Nathaniel said, "I always thought Oscar lacked ambition, so I never paid much attention to him. But now, I see I was an idiot. He wants to change the Flores Group, which is good, but he doesn't have the chops. I hope you can ask Evelyn to help him when the time comes."
