Chapter 277 Your Life is More Important to Me
Dermot leaned against the head of the bed and helplessly spoke, "I just wanted to make sure you arrived safely at the hospital, so I followed behind you. I didn't expect..."
In reality, he didn't notice Phoebe's car at first. It was only when she was about to collide with Evelyn that he felt something was wrong. Without much hesitation, he drove his car over and directly sent Phoebe's car flying, preventing her from hitting Evelyn.
"Don't tell me you've always been like this?" Evelyn looked at him, unsure of what to say.
Dermot nodded, not denying it.
Evelyn felt both angry and helpless, sighing, "You don't need to do this. In the end, we have no relationship whatsoever. In a situation like today, if anything were to happen to you because of saving me, it wouldn't be worth it."
"You don't have feelings for me, so you consider whether it's worth it or not, but I have feelings for you, so I don't consider these things." In that situation at the time, there was no time for him to think.
The man's gaze was passionate and affectionate, making Evelyn want to avoid it. "Do you know that I don't like you, yet you're wasting time on me? This doesn't seem like your style."
"I have confidence in myself, and sooner or later, you will come to like me." Dermot smiled at her, inexplicably confident.
Evelyn didn't know where his confidence came from, but she could be sure of one thing - she seemed to truly be starting to have feelings for him. However, she didn't show it because she herself wasn't quite sure if this could be considered liking someone.
"Rest well." After saying that, Evelyn got up to leave. She felt that she needed some time alone.
Seeing her about to leave, Dermot reluctantly said, "Won't you stay with me a little longer?"
"You need to rest well right now. If I stay here, it will only disturb you." Evelyn had already reached the door, opened it, and looked at the man lying on the bed.
After a moment, she couldn't help but say, "Don't do this again next time. There's nothing more important than your own life."
She didn't want to owe Dermot such a big favor, even though she already owed him quite a bit.
"You." Dermot looked at her and said.
Evelyn was puzzled, seemingly not understanding the meaning behind his words. The man explained, "You are more important to me than my own life."
Evelyn, standing at the doorway, was stunned. She heard the sound of her heart pounding, something she had never experienced before.
"Why? I don't understand." She had never been able to understand what Dermot's liking for her was based on, especially this kind of reckless liking that made no sense at all.
But Dermot felt it was perfectly normal. He told her, "You are the person I like, the person I care about. To me, your life is more important."
"There's nothing worth liking about me." Evelyn said.
"Liking someone is not something that requires a specific reason. It just happens." Dermot smiled, his confidence unwavering.
"Dermot's words echoed in Evelyn's mind as she sat in her office, unable to focus on work. Luckily, she didn't have any surgeries today and had enough time to daydream.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door and Marina walked in. "Eve, that girl named Phoebe woke up, but she hasn't said a word since. The situation seems a bit concerning."
"Okay, I'll go check on her," Evelyn stood up, forcing Dermot out of her mind.
As she walked out of the office, she ran into Ruby who was rushing towards her. The moment Ruby saw her, she hugged her tightly.
"What just happened? I heard a loud bang on the phone and then it got disconnected. I kept calling but no one answered, I was so worried," Ruby held onto Evelyn, her voice filled with tears.
