Chapter 1101: You Still Won't Tell Me the Truth

Three days later, Evelyn and the crew were chillin' at the entrance of Golombia Airport.

After snooping around for a few days, Evelyn had pretty much pieced everything together. But she still played it cool, acting like she was clueless and showed up at the airport with Joshua, just like they planned.

But that didn’t mean she was actually gonna hop on that plane.

In the waiting lounge, with like half an hour left before boarding, Joshua was practically begging for time to speed up.

Evelyn was all calm and collected, and Joshua couldn’t read a thing on her face, which was seriously freaking him out.

“Evelyn, don’t stress. Once we find Dr. Gray, I’ll do the treatment thing and get better ASAP. Then we can head back home,” Joshua said.

Evelyn gave a tiny smile. “Joshua, even now, you’re still not gonna spill the truth?”

She had always hoped Joshua might not be such a jerk, that he’d come clean beforehand.

But now, with just half an hour left before boarding, once they were on the plane, it’d be game over.

So, even though Evelyn had been giving him chances, she couldn’t keep up the act any longer.

“Evelyn, what are you talking about?” Joshua’s face froze for a sec but then he played it cool. “You think I’d lie to you?”

“I used to think you wouldn’t, but now…” Evelyn smiled, feeling like her past self was a total joke.

The unease was getting worse, and Joshua knew Evelyn probably had the whole picture. “Evelyn, if I ever lied to you, it was only ‘cause I love you.”

Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh, with a hint of sarcasm, “Love? So you had someone kidnap me, then played the hero to save me, pretended to be hurt, all to make me feel guilty and stick around?”

Joshua’s face went ghostly pale. If Evelyn didn’t know his injuries were fake, she might’ve been worried about him again.

“Evelyn, who told you all this? Was it Dermot?” Joshua forced himself to stay calm and continued, “I know he doesn’t like you taking care of me, so he’s been feeding you lies. But I hope you can trust me.”

“Joshua, you think I still trust you?” Evelyn had trusted him before, but he blew it.

Joshua’s expression shifted. He wasn’t dumb; seeing Evelyn like this, he guessed she knew a lot and probably had solid proof. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even listen to his excuses.

“Joshua, why’d you do this? Do you know how much it hurts?” No matter what, they’d grown up together. Even if they couldn’t be together, they were supposed to be best friends.

But now...

Evelyn couldn’t see him as a friend anymore.

Joshua sighed and decided to drop the act. “When did you find out?”

“The day you suggested I go abroad with you, Dermot took me to see Tommy, who used to work for you.” Since everything was out in the open, Evelyn saw no point in hiding anything.

Joshua got it and smiled bitterly. “Didn’t think Tommy’d rat me out.”

Tommy wasn’t dead and had spilled everything to Dermot.

Thinking back, Joshua realized sending Brandon to off Tommy was a screw-up.

If Brandon hadn’t tried to kill him, Tommy probably wouldn’t have snitched, and Evelyn might still be in the dark.

But he was just scared. As long as Tommy was alive and under Dermot’s thumb, he could never really chill.
