Chapter 1036: He Doesn't Care

Just as they were chatting, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," Evelyn said, putting down her stuff and heading to the door, guessing it was Aidan and the others. She opened the door to find Aidan and Niall standing there.

The tension was obvious, probably because Niall had brought Lily along.

Evelyn noticed but didn't comment. "Come in, it's cold out," she urged.

She glanced at the sky; it had started snowing again, and it looked like a heavy snowfall was coming.

The three of them walked into the villa, instantly feeling the warmth inside.

"Aidan, I got all the groceries you listed. Check if anything's missing, and I'll go get it," Evelyn said, already pulling Aidan toward the kitchen.

Seeing Joshua in the kitchen, Aidan mocked, "What? You want to help too?"

"Sure, if I can," Joshua replied with a smile, ignoring Aidan's sarcasm.

He knew Aidan was annoyed with him, mainly because he had asked Evelyn to stay and take care of him. But he didn't care.

Aidan snorted, "No need, Evelyn can help me. You should rest so you don't end up feeling unwell and accuse me of bullying you."

"Thanks for your hard work," Joshua replied, not insisting. He knew he wouldn't be much help anyway.

He had Brandon push him back to his room, not wanting to chat with Niall in the living room. They weren't close, and Niall looked at him with hostility. It was clear Niall knew why Evelyn was there.

As Joshua went upstairs, Niall sneered, "Hypocrite!"

Niall hadn't been entirely on board with Aidan trying to set up Evelyn and Joshua, but he didn't strongly oppose it either. He had a good impression of Joshua back then. But Joshua had changed over the years.

"Niall, who is he?" Lily glanced at the second floor and then at Niall. She didn't know Joshua.

Niall withdrew his gaze. "Not important. He's not a good person."

Lily nodded, looking around the villa before finally setting her eyes on the kitchen. "Let's go help in the kitchen. There's nothing else to do anyway."

"Alright," Niall agreed, though he knew Aidan wouldn't be pleased to see Lily. But it didn't feel right to just sit in the living room while Evelyn and Aidan were busy in the kitchen.

With that, they got up and walked to the kitchen.

"Evelyn, we're here to help," Niall said with a smile, moving closer to Evelyn and staying as far from Aidan as possible.

Lily naturally followed him, avoiding eye contact with Aidan.

Evelyn glanced at the two, understanding their intentions. "You can help me wash the vegetables. I'll go chop them."

"No, you stay with them," Aidan interjected, aware of Evelyn's cooking skills and not wanting her to ruin his dishes.

Evelyn felt awkward. "Aidan, I just didn't want you to be overwhelmed."

"We have plenty of time; no rush," Aidan replied, noting that it was still a while before noon and he didn't think he'd be overwhelmed.

Since he said so, Evelyn had no choice but to comply and joined Niall and Lily in washing vegetables. The atmosphere was unusually quiet, likely because of Lily's presence, which made Evelyn uncomfortable. It was never this tense when it was just the three siblings.

She felt helpless, realizing that Lily's arrival had driven a significant wedge between Aidan and Niall.
