Chapter 1120: Who Do You Think You Are
Mary told her to catch some Z's, but Evelyn barely got a wink of sleep all night.
She was super stressed something might go sideways. Like Mary said, this was her last shot for a while. If she blew it, Evelyn had no clue how long she'd be stuck here.
Next morning, the second she heard Joshua's footsteps leaving, Evelyn shot up in bed.
He was heading out, just like Mary said.
As the chopper lifted off, Evelyn felt a bit of relief; at least she was one step closer to getting out.
Soon, there was a knock on the door. She opened it. As expected, it was Mary.
"Come on, let's roll!" Mary whispered urgently.
Even though getting Evelyn out made her happy, betraying Joshua was eating her up inside.
Evelyn followed Mary and hid in the big box. Right now, she was putting her life in Mary's hands.
It wasn't that Evelyn trusted Mary a ton, but their goals lined up for now.
The box started shaking, probably being lifted. Evelyn heard someone outside ask, "Mary, what's in here?"
"Mind your own business! It's just my stuff," Mary snapped.
The guy didn't dare say another word. Everyone on the island knew Mary and Brandon were Joshua's most trusted people, and they wouldn't cross him.
The box made it onto the boat, and Evelyn let out a sigh of relief.
As the boat started moving, Evelyn knew she was finally getting away from the island. She felt a mix of excitement and nerves.
She had no idea if Dermot got the message, or if he was even around. It was all just a guess.
But at this point, even if it was all a guess, there was no turning back.
After about three or four hours on the water, the boat finally stopped. Evelyn, who had been dozing off, instantly tensed up.
Soon, someone lifted her off the boat. "This is Mary's stuff."
Another crew took over and carried the box away.
They didn't go far before setting the box down in a corner and opening it.
The sudden light made Evelyn squint. She didn't make any sudden moves because these guys were armed.
Just as she thought, once her eyes adjusted, she saw a gun pointed right at her forehead. "Where's the check?"
Of course, Mary would never let her keep the money. When Mary gave her the check, she already planned to take it back.
"Is Mary backing out?" Evelyn tried to stay cool and buy some time.
The guy sneered, looking at her like she was trash. "Who do you think you are? You really think Mary would keep her word to you?"
Evelyn pressed her lips together. "I can give you the check, but you gotta get me a car."
"You clearly don't get it. Who said we only want the money?" The guy laughed, and his two goons laughed too.
Evelyn wasn't shocked.
Mary never planned to let her leave alive.
Not killing her on the island was because Joshua would suspect her. Once Evelyn left the island, Mary would kill her in Danista. Even if her body was found later, it could be said she escaped and got killed by someone else.
Mary really had it all figured out.
But Evelyn wasn't dumb either.
"Looks like I'm not getting out of here alive," Evelyn sighed, sounding kinda bitter.
The group didn't take her seriously, never thinking Evelyn would fight back. To them, she was powerless.
