Chapter 992: Come with us.
Evelyn had a pounding headache and no energy to argue anymore.
Struggling to shake off Geoffrey's hand, she said weakly, "You guys talk; I'm heading downstairs."
If she stayed any longer, she might faint.
Evelyn got into the elevator, but Lisa wasn't letting her go, glaring. "Evelyn, what's up? You shut down Geoffrey before, and now you're all buddy-buddy. Got multiple boyfriends?"
"You're overthinking. I'm not into him," Evelyn said, her headache making her not want to talk.
Lisa didn't buy it.
"Overthinking? Are you saying I imagined what I saw?" Lisa sneered, keeping the elevator on this floor.
Evelyn was desperate. She looked at Geoffrey outside the elevator and asked, "Can you guys take this outside? I need to get downstairs."
"Evelyn!" Lisa felt ignored and, seeing Evelyn dare to flirt with Geoffrey, was furious.
Geoffrey finally snapped out of it. Seeing Lisa, he knew he was in trouble. Lisa was so possessive. If he even talked to another woman, she'd flip. Now, siding with Evelyn, a big argument was coming.
Evelyn's voice brought him back. Geoffrey said, "Lisa, step out first. Let Evelyn go downstairs. I'll explain everything."
Lisa refused, "No. You want to let her go? Still protecting her?"
Geoffrey was speechless, and Evelyn even more so.
Seeing more people gathering, Geoffrey had no choice but to pull Lisa out of the elevator, press the close button for Evelyn, and lead Lisa away.
"Geoffrey! You're dead!" Lisa's voice echoed in the hallway. Evelyn, looking at the closed elevator doors, sighed in relief.
The elevator reached the third floor, and as the doors opened, Evelyn was about to step out when she noticed something off about the people outside.
They didn't want to enter the elevator but stared directly at Evelyn, like she was their prey.
Evelyn lowered her head, trying to leave quickly.
But she was too naive.
The group entered the elevator, blocking her exit. "Dr. Kyte, come with us."
One of them pressed the button for the basement.
Evelyn tightened her lips, ready to sneak a hand into her pocket to call for help.
But before she could, a hand seized hers. "Dr. Kyte, stay put, or I might have to shoot."
A gun pressed against Evelyn's waist, freezing her in fear.
Normally, she would have acted the moment they appeared, never letting them trap her.
But now, she could barely stand, let alone resist.
If she wasn't sick, she could take on five people; now, she couldn't handle one.
Evelyn thought how unlucky she was to face danger now.
But they had chosen this moment on purpose. Otherwise, how could they have succeeded so easily?
In a hospital stairwell, Geoffrey finished explaining to Lisa. "Lisa, I really don't have feelings for her anymore. You're the only one in my heart now. Please believe me."
"Really?" Lisa was still skeptical, but her anger had subsided.
"Really, I only helped her because she looked unwell. I had no other intentions," Geoffrey assured her.
