Chapter 1310: No Energy to Play Along with You

Ava strutted into Dermot's office.

Pushing thirty, Ava had that mature vibe, but her body was still banging. Rocking a sexy mermaid skirt, she sauntered up to Dermot. "Dermot, even if you're over me, no need to ghost me, right?"

"Who's ghosting you? I'm swamped." Dermot shot her a cool glance.

To him, Ava was just an old flame, not even a close one anymore.

"Really? You look pretty chill to me." Ava giggled, covering her mouth. She didn't bother calling out his BS and plopped down on the sofa like she owned the place.

Dermot wasn't in the mood for her games. "What do you want this time?"

"Same as always," Ava said.

"Can't help you," Dermot shot back. "Handle your own mess. I'm just an old friend, not your dad."

"Dermot, scared your wife will get jelly if we get too close?" Ava smirked, teasing him for being whipped.

Dermot didn't see the shame in it and didn't deny it. "Since you know, you should stay away. If Evelyn gets pissed, you can't handle it."

"Dermot, that's cold. You used to be into me," Ava faked a hurt look. Back when Dermot liked her, he wasn't this guarded.

Dermot rolled his eyes. "You said it, that was ages ago. I've moved on."

"Fine, let's drop the past. But I really need your help," Ava's smile faded. If Dermot didn't help, she was screwed.

Dermot felt a headache coming on. "What do you want me to do?"

"Help me deal with Delmar. Make him stop bugging me. I've been with him for years; I deserve something," Ava said, admiring her nails.

Dermot sighed. "What exactly do you want?"

"I want him to marry me. I'm too old to be his side chick without any recognition," she replied. Everyone around her was getting hitched. Even Dermot, who she thought would never settle down, was getting married. She couldn't help but think about marriage too.

Dermot found her words ridiculous and snorted. "If you want him to marry you, just tell him. No need to drag me into it."

"That won't work. Even if I tell him, he won't marry me. He doesn't realize he could lose me, so I need to give him a wake-up call." Delmar knew Dermot once liked her, so she thought using Dermot would scare Delmar.

But Dermot wasn't interested. "I can't help you. I'm about to get married and don't have time for your drama."

"Dermot."

"Ava, when I helped you before, giving you a place to crash, it wasn't because I still had feelings. I was just being nice 'cause we were classmates. Got it?" Dermot cut in, hoping she got the message.

His blunt words left Ava no hope, making her feel a pang of sadness. "Alright, I get it," she replied.

"Good. If it's not important, don't come to me. People might get the wrong idea about us," Dermot reminded her.

Ava thought he was really heartless but also felt a bit envious of Evelyn. How amazing must she be to have Dermot's special affection?
