Chapter 473 What Exactly Do You Like About Me?
As the two were at an impasse, Evelyn came down from upstairs, and Dermot, no longer paying attention to Benjamin, walked over to her.
"Are you done talking?" he asked.
Evelyn nodded, giving Dermot a meaningful look but said nothing.
Dermot could sense the emotion in her eyes, but since she didn’t speak up, he wouldn’t ask, at least not at this moment.
Soon after, Grandpa Doyle came down from upstairs. "Let's have dinner," he announced.
Quickly, the four of them sat at the dinner table, and perhaps due to Evelyn’s presence, the atmosphere turned somewhat awkward.
Grandpa Doyle knew Evelyn was uncomfortable and didn’t try to console her. These matters had to be understood by oneself; others' persuasion was meaningless and would only cause her to become resentful.
He glanced at his grandson, who kept staring at Evelyn, and sighed helplessly. His grandson was good in all aspects, but once he fell in love, he would be completely immersed, and he didn’t know how much more hardship he would have to endure because of Evelyn.
Well, he didn't want to interfere too much anymore.
"Ms. Kyte, my son Luke is employed at your company. I hope you can look after him," Benjamin suddenly spoke up, surprising the other three at the table.
Especially Evelyn. So direct in acknowledging Luke as your son? And not caring what Dermot and Grandpa Doyle thought?
She looked at Grandpa Doyle, who maintained his usual composure, still eating his meal calmly, indicating he had known about Benjamin's son.
Coming back to her senses, she responded with a polite yet distant smile,"If Luke is capable, he will naturally be given responsibilities. If not, no matter how much you, as a father, try to pave the way for him, it may all be in vain."
She wasn't foolish. Linking this to the fact that Grandpa Doyle knew everything and that Luke had suddenly started working at her company, it was likely related to her identity.
She couldn't bring herself to like these people with their ulterior motives.
Benjamin's face changed slightly, perhaps not expecting Evelyn to be so blunt.
Evelyn couldn’t care less about him, focusing on her meal, indifferent to what he thought.
Dermot felt a secret delight, thinking Evelyn's retort was spot on.
After dinner, Evelyn took her leave, and Dermot accompanied her out of the Doyle Mansion.
On the way back to the apartment, Evelyn remained silent, which made Dermot uneasy.
"Evey, you came today to ask Grandpa about the matters related to your birth, didn't you?" Dermot broke the silence, feeling that it wasn’t right to continue in silence.
Evelyn withdrew her gaze from the window, looking at him with some coldness,"You knew?"
"Yes," Dermot didn't deny, understanding he could no longer deceive Evelyn, or else he would only push her further away.
Evelyn laughed lightly, with a hint of self-mockery,"Grandpa Doyle said that you actually knew nothing."
She had been hesitant about how to ask, fearing that if she didn't ask properly, it might make Dermot feel she was doubting him.
But now it seemed she had been too cautious; he had known all along.
"I found out later." By that time, he had already fallen for Evelyn.
Evelyn didn't care about these things, scoffing,"Dermot, I'm wondering, does your liking for me have anything to do with my identity? I've always found it strange, why would the CEO of the Doyle Group take a liking to me for no reason?"
She never believed in love at first sight, nor did she think she had such charm.
Now it seemed, perhaps there had been an ulterior motive from the start.
