Chapter 487 Don't Think Too Much
Lassie was in a daze for a long time, then suddenly burst into tears, leaving everyone baffled. Wasn't the surgery a success? Why the tears now?
But soon, Lassie burst into laughter: "I knew Dr. Kyte would succeed! I just knew it!"
She was incredibly grateful for her decision and for having insisted on trusting Evelyn; otherwise, today wouldn't have happened.
"Miss, my grandpa, he..."
"He's been moved to the ICU. As for his recovery, we'll have to see how he does over the next few days." The time after surgery is the most dangerous; no one can be careless or guarantee a 100% success rate.
Lassie nodded, thanking her repeatedly. While everyone else went to the ICU to see Grandpa Doyle, she stood still, not leaving her spot.
Soon, Evelyn came out, and Lassie approached her.
Seeing her still at the entrance of the operating room, Evelyn was a bit surprised: "Didn't the nurse tell you? Grandpa Doyle has been moved to the ICU. Aren't you going to see him?"
"I know." Lassie nodded, her gaze sincere as she looked at Evelyn. "I just wanted to thank you in person."
Evelyn smiled at her words, "Seeing how surprised you are, did you have no hope for me from the start?"
Lassie, embarrassed, didn’t dare admit that was indeed what she had thought.
"Why seek me out if you had no hope?" Evelyn asked, somewhat puzzled by Lassie's reasoning.
Lassie pondered for a long time before finally speaking: "Maybe... I just wanted to pretend I was trying my best, fearing I'd feel guilty if Grandpa really passed away."
"Go see Mr. Doyle. Don't think too much," Evelyn patted her shoulder and smiled at her warmly.
That smile made Lassie a little dazed.
She had never really understood what Dermot saw in Evelyn. In terms of looks, she felt she wasn’ t much less attractive, and in terms of family background, she was far superior.
But now she understood a bit better. Evelyn was unique, truly one of a kind, and captivating.
Lassie thanked her again, then hurried off to see Grandpa Doyle, not continuing the conversation.
After she left, Evelyn also prepared to leave the hospital, feeling tired from the surgery.
Working with unfamiliar doctors meant she had to be extra attentive; there was hardly a moment to relax during the operation.
She had barely taken a few steps when someone caught up to her quickly, "Evelyn."
Hearing the voice, Evelyn instinctively turned around, surprised to see Geoffrey: "Geoffrey, shouldn't you be in Moris City?"
"I just got back from Colombia yesterday." He had planned to take a few extra days off in Colombia before returning to Moris City to get to know Evelyn better, determined to make her fall for him.
Little did he expect to encounter Evelyn in Colombia, and at his hospital, no less.
"Yeah," Evelyn nodded casually, "You go ahead with your things, I'm leaving."
She was tired and didn't want to continue the conversation, especially since she had no interest in Geoffrey.
But Geoffrey wasn't ready to give up, following her and asking uncertainly, "Did you perform the surgery on Grandpa Doyle of the Baker family?"
Evelyn hummed not understanding why Geoffrey was so concerned about it.
Of course, Geoffrey cared. An outsider doctor saving Grandpa Doyle of the Baker family – aside from the gratitude from the Bakers, the hospital was abuzz with curiosity about who Evelyn was.
They didn't know Evelyn, but Geoffrey did. He could imagine how envious the others must be, seeing him walking with Evelyn.
