Chapter 940: Blame Him

When Dermot, Joshua, and Evelyn left the police station, they saw Randy from next door coming out too, looking pretty grim.

Dermot, with a smirk, asked, "What, Randy? Left your grandson in there? Not worried he'll spill the beans?"

Alex had some guts. He let Randy go but kept Otis, saying someone had to take the fall, and that was Otis.

Randy was fuming. He glared at them and snapped, "Don't get too cocky, Dermot!"

Dermot grinned, "Just concerned about you, Randy."

Randy snorted and walked off with his crew.

Outside, Ruby and Craig were waiting. Ruby rushed over to Evelyn. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Evelyn smiled, relieved Ruby was safe too. Despite the chaos, everyone was okay.

Ruby felt guilty. "It's my fault. If I hadn't been caught, you wouldn't have been threatened."

Evelyn shook her head. "No way. It's my fault. You got dragged into this because of me."

Dermot, feeling guilty too, said, "No, it's on me."

Joshua nodded, "Yeah, it's your fault."

Evelyn glanced at Joshua, still curious about what was going on.

Joshua, looking a bit shifty, said, "I gotta go. Evelyn, stay safe."

Evelyn let him leave. She'd find out eventually, whenever Joshua was ready to talk.

Dermot stayed quiet, knowing it was better for Joshua to explain himself.

Craig suggested, "You guys haven't eaten, right? Let's grab a bite."

They realized they were hungry. Evelyn had planned to ask Ruby to lunch, but things got crazy. Now it was almost dinner time.

They headed to a nearby mall. Craig drove, with Evelyn and Ruby in the back and Dermot up front.

Craig asked, "Evelyn, how'd you know Alex would agree to come with me?"

Evelyn smiled, "Just a gut feeling about his personality."

Dermot chimed in, "Do you usually keep tabs on the police station? How'd you know about Alex?"

Evelyn nodded, "Yeah, sometimes."

Craig, a bit jealous, added, "Funny enough, he's Ruby's classmate."

Evelyn was surprised. "Really, Ruby?"

"Yeah, we were middle school classmates," Ruby said. "I wouldn't have recognized him if he hadn't told me. He's changed a lot."

"That's fate," Evelyn laughed. She hadn't known Alex and Ruby knew each other. If she had, she might've used it to their advantage against Randy.
