Chapter 529 Don't Think I'll Accept You

It was intentional! Lucia was sure of it. Evelyn had feigned ignorance, acting as though she lacked piano skills, so she could catch her off guard.

“Perhaps Evelyn has anticipated me trying to make her look foolish, so she waited for the perfect moment to strike back.”

The more Lucia thought about it, the more she found Evelyn terrifying.

Backing away with unsteady steps, Lucia looked at her as if she were a ghost. "You did this on purpose."

Evelyn, with an innocent expression, asked, "What?"

"And now you're happy, right? Everyone knows how capable you are. You've got everyone's admiration, and I'm the joke. You must be thrilled," Lucia’s voice trembled, her eyes welling up with emotions she could barely contain.

Seeing Lucia's distraught state, Evelyn stepped forward, took her into an embrace, and whispered in her ear, "Know your place. Don’t embarrass yourself here."

She didn't care much personally, but Lucia was the daughter of the Kyte family. Out of respect for their family name, she didn't want them to be the topic of everyone's ridicule.

Lucia tried to break free, but Evelyn didn't give her the chance and forcefully dragged her towards Blake, who was not too far away.

To outsiders, the two of them seemed like affectionate sisters. Only Lucia knew she was under duress!

Once in front of Blake, despite the resentment in her heart, Lucia didn’t dare to show it. That was when Evelyn finally released her grip.

"Evelyn, I didn't know you played piano so well. You did the Kyte family proud tonight,” Blake said, clearly in good spirits from the evening’s events.

Evelyn smiled and pushed Lucia toward Blake, saying, “Well, I owe it to my lovely sister here. She’s the one who suggested to Mr. Lock that I should play. Without her, I wouldn't have had this opportunity.”

Blake's eyebrows knit together instantly at Evelyn's words. He wasn't a fool and clearly grasped the insinuation.

Before he could scold her, Lucia explained, "Dad, I knew sister could play the piano, so I wanted to find an opportunity for her to showcase her talent. I wanted everyone to see that the Kyte family’s daughters excel no matter where they grow up."

Evelyn glanced at Lucia, astonished at her quick thinking.

People often evolved faster under pressure, and Lucia had matured rapidly in just a few days. She was now many times smarter than when Evelyn first met her.

"Is that so?" Blake questioned, still skeptical.

Lucia nodded vigorously. Evelyn, sensing Blake's gaze, also nodded with a smile, "Perhaps that's the case. I'd like to believe that she meant well."

Believe? If she really did believe it, she'd question her own sanity.

But then again, Evelyn wasn't about to expose Lucia. She was well aware that although Blake seemed to favor her, he also wanted her to get along with Lucia. A couple of times here and there wouldn't matter, but if it happened too often, even Blake might not always side with her.

So, Evelyn figured it was best not to make Blake dislike her before she was strong enough on her own.

"I'm just happy to see you two getting along," Blake said without probing further. "The party is almost over. The driver is waiting at the door. Head back if you’re finding it dull."

"Sure," both replied and nodded. Blake turned back to mingle with the crowd, clearly not done with his evening.

As soon as Blake was gone, Lucia’s expression shifted instantly, "Don't think just because you didn't call me out that I'll accept you. Never!”

Lucia knew the moment Evelyn came to the Kyte family that she came to take everything away from her.

'That’s why I'll never accept her! We are born enemies!'
