Chapter 504 You've Changed Quite a Lot

When faced with Dora's confrontation, Blake was unmoved, "If Lucia didn't have a mother like you, how would she have ended up like this? Instead of reflecting on your own problems, you shift the blame to me. Dora, after all these years, you really haven't changed a bit, have you?"

Never once did she consider that she might be the problem. No matter what happened, it was always someone else's fault – she could do no wrong.

"Yeah, right, I haven't changed. I've always been like this, and you've known it all along, haven't you?" Dora retorted with a sneer, "But you, Blake, you've changed quite a lot over the years."

The two stood at an impasse, neither willing to give in, until Blake's assistant knocked on the office door, prompting Blake to finally say to her, "Evelyn is coming for dinner tonight. Go and tell the kitchen to prepare a few extra dishes."

"Blake!" Dora's eyes widened in disbelief. Was this man seriously expecting her to play hostess to Evelyn?

"Dora, don't forget your place. You married into the Kyte family, which makes you one of us. You do as I say, understood?" Blake's eyes were cold and unyielding as he looked at her.

He was no longer the agreeable Blake from the past. Now, he was the patriarch of the Kyte family, a figure who struck fear into the hearts of outsiders.

Dora turned pale, wanting to argue, but she couldn't find the words to do so.

Seeing her speechless, Blake continued, "Don't think that having the Roberts family in your corner gives you leverage against me. Let me make it clear – even if the Roberts family is protective of you, they won't oppose me because of you. You still don't seem to understand that after all these years."

Sure, the Roberts family might help Dora out with small issues, but their support wasn't because she was one of them. It was because she was the lady of the Kyte household – they helped her out of respect for that status.

Poor Dora, she actually believed that the Roberts family had her back.

For a long time, Dora didn't speak up, and with a wave of his hand, Blake dismissed her, " Return to your duties and leave these issues to me."

Dora turned and walked away, her heart brimming with unsaid words. She was far from convinced; in fact, she couldn't shake the feeling that Evelyn was to blame for the mess. Had Evelyn not reappeared out of the blue, would their lives have spiraled into this chaos?

Over the years, Dora's animosity had waned; she didn't necessarily wish death upon Evelyn. Had Evelyn merely stayed put, content with her place in the Kyte family as just one of the daughters, Dora would have spared herself the hassle. But now?

With Evelyn's recent return, Blake had practically rolled out the red carpet, preparing to pass on the Kyte legacy to her. How could Dora let this slide—not just for herself, but for her daughter Lucia?

In the office, Blake, unaware of Dora's inner turmoil, drew on his knowledge of her character. "Keep an eye on Dora," he instructed his assistant. "Don't give her the chance to harm Evelyn."

"Of course," the assistant nodded, and then added, "Sir, the news about you giving Miss Evelyn two companies has spread. We're receiving calls inquiring about your relationship with her. What should we say?"

Blake had anticipated this, "Go public with my relationship with Evelyn. Announce that she is my long-lost eldest daughter."

The assistant was taken aback but said nothing; he simply acknowledged and left the office.

Blake was troubled by the fact that Evelyn's mother's identity must remain a secret; he and Evelyn's mother had never married. Without declaring Evelyn as his and Dora's lost daughter, she'd be branded an illegitimate child, subject to the harsh judgmental whispers of the world.

Having already faced so much injustice, Blake was determined to spare Evelyn from any further pain.
