Chapter 1235: I'm Not Joking with You
Dermot and Evelyn were on the same page; neither of them bought the whole "accident" story.
"Yeah, I think so too. I got Todd on it already, so we should know soon," Evelyn said.
Dermot grinned. "Evelyn, you're tough. Even if something happens to me down the line, I know you got this."
"Dermot!" Evelyn's tone suddenly got serious.
She stared at him, dead serious. "Don't even think like that. If you die, I..."
"I'll marry the person you hate the most!" She huffed, trying to come up with a threat.
Dermot chuckled, but it hurt his wound, making him break out in a cold sweat. "Who do I hate the most right now?"
The room was dim, so Evelyn didn't catch the sweat on Dermot's forehead. She was too busy thinking.
"Luke?" Evelyn guessed, but after a moment, he seemed like the only option.
Dermot shook his head. "I used to hate him, but he's not the worst."
"Then who?" Evelyn asked.
"Do you really wanna marry him?" Dermot smirked, eyes locked on Evelyn.
Evelyn pouted. "I was just saying."
Dermot's smile softened. "It's Joshua."
"What? Why?" Evelyn was shocked; she hadn't thought about Joshua in ages.
Just like when she called Joshua before she left, she hoped they'd never cross paths again.
"Because he almost made me lose you," Dermot said, looking at Evelyn.
When Joshua was around, Dermot had never felt so panicked.
First, he was scared Evelyn actually liked Joshua.
Then, he was scared Evelyn would end up taking care of Joshua forever.
Even when Joshua took Evelyn away, he feared he’d never get her back.
Luckily, none of that happened.
Their eyes met, and Evelyn got what Dermot meant. She smiled and said, "Since you hate him so much, you better stay safe. If you die, I'll go find him right away."
"Evelyn," Dermot said, a bit annoyed.
"Dermot, I'm not joking. So, you better not let anything happen to you," Evelyn warned, more serious than ever.
Dermot believed her and nodded. "Alright, I'll take care of myself. We got a whole lifetime ahead, and I can't stand the thought of being without you."
Evelyn's cheeks turned red. Luckily, it was dim, and Dermot couldn't see it; otherwise, she'd be even more embarrassed.
"Who wants to be with you for a lifetime? Dream on." With that, Evelyn lay down. "Good night."
"Good night." Dermot didn't say anything more, but he had already made up his mind.
Once they got out of the hospital, it was time to plan the proposal.
After this whole mess, Dermot realized how much he feared losing Evelyn.
So, he figured he should make her his wife ASAP.
Evelyn had no clue what Dermot was thinking. If she knew he was planning to propose, she'd probably freak out.
The two slowly drifted off to sleep as the hospital room grew quiet, waiting for dawn to break.
