Chapter 1022: That Can't Be Certain
After all these years of friendship, they didn't dwell on it. No need to assign blame; they both worked hard, succeeded, and supported each other.
"Let's go, dinner's on me," Ruby said, patting her shoulder.
Evelyn hesitated, thinking of Joshua. She had promised to have dinner with him every day.
"Are you worried about Joshua?" Ruby asked, already knowing about him from Craig.
Ruby still kept in touch with Craig. Despite rejecting him countless times, Craig kept reaching out, making it hard to avoid him.
Ruby used to like Joshua, but after hearing about his demands on Evelyn, her opinion changed. "Does he really need to control everything? Just because he saved you doesn't mean he can take away your freedom," Ruby said, annoyed.
Evelyn quickly clarified, "No, it's not like that. He didn't restrict my freedom. I just promised to have dinner with him every night."
"I don't care. I hardly ever get time off to see you. You have to have dinner with me tonight," Ruby insisted, holding Evelyn back.
Evelyn chuckled, "Don't worry, I won't let you come all this way for nothing. I'll call Joshua and explain."
Evelyn dialed Joshua's number. As expected, he was understanding. "Evelyn, it's your choice. You don't need my permission. But I'm happy you called. It shows you care about my feelings," he said.
After hanging up, Evelyn looked at Ruby. "Let's go to dinner."
"Alright." Knowing Joshua agreed, Ruby stopped badmouthing him.
However, Ruby still felt she needed to talk to Evelyn about staying with Joshua. This couldn't go on.
Just as Evelyn left the hospital, Dermot called, also inviting her to dinner, but she declined.
"Good thing you didn't ditch me for a guy," Ruby said with a satisfied smile as Evelyn hung up.
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Do you really think I'm that kind of person?"
Ruby gave her a meaningful look. "Well, you never know."
They quickly got into the car and headed to a restaurant they both liked. Dermot, on the other end, wasn't upset because he knew Evelyn was with Ruby and not Joshua, which was good news for him.
In the restaurant, after ordering, Ruby got straight to the point. "Evelyn, you don't really plan to take care of Joshua for the rest of your life, do you?"
"I haven't thought that far ahead," Evelyn replied. A lifetime was too long to predict, but for now, she needed to stay by Joshua's side.
Ruby was dissatisfied. "Even though he saved you, and I'm grateful, I think his demand is too much."
If Joshua truly liked Evelyn, wouldn't he want her to be happy for the rest of her life? How could he expect her to take care of him forever?
"Ruby, don't say that. Joshua didn't force me. I want to stay and take care of him," Evelyn replied, shaking her head.
Ruby pouted, clearly unconvinced.
Craig had told her everything. It was obvious to Ruby that keeping Evelyn by his side was Joshua's idea.
What Ruby didn't realize was that Craig, being Dermot's friend, was naturally biased toward Dermot and had nothing good to say about Joshua.
