Chapter 1334 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (9)
"Alright," Phoebe nodded, going along with it. She knew Aidan was right; there'd be plenty more chances down the road. But if she got sick and kicked the bucket, she'd never see Theodore grow up.
Phoebe didn't push it, so Aidan felt a wave of relief and got up to head to the kitchen. "Want some spaghetti?"
Phoebe looked confused.
About ten minutes later, Phoebe stared at the plate of spaghetti in front of her, lost in thought.
"Do you skip dinner every day?" she finally blurted out. If Aidan always ate this late, it couldn't be good for him.
Aidan was too busy chowing down to notice her concern. "The company's crazy busy."
If it weren't for Phoebe, he wouldn't have eaten anything last night.
Tonight, he suggested spaghetti again, probably 'cause he remembered how nice it was having it with her before.
"Even if you're swamped, you can't skip meals. How do you even manage that?" Phoebe was a bit ticked off. "You're not flying solo anymore; you gotta take care of yourself."
Aidan paused, looking like he didn't get what she was saying.
Phoebe's ears turned red, and she quickly looked away. "I mean, you're a dad now. You need to take care of yourself for Theodore."
"Oh, got it," Aidan replied, sounding like he didn't really care.
Hearing his response, Phoebe knew he wasn't really listening. She felt helpless but also knew she had no right to tell him what to do, feeling a bit bitter.
Sometimes, you didn't even have the right to care for someone.
After finishing the spaghetti, they each went back to their rooms. Aidan took a shower and lay on the bed, unable to stop thinking about Theodore.
From now on, he had another family member in this world.
A family member who shared his blood and his last name.
Aidan couldn't quite describe his feelings; they were complicated but mostly happy.
He was no longer alone, and that was great.
Next door, Phoebe lay in bed, also unable to sleep.
It wasn't because of anything else but because she had just gotten a call from Craig when she got back to her room.
"Craig," Phoebe answered the call.
"How long do you plan to stay at Aidan's place? What's going on between you two? Aren't you worried about people talking?" Craig's tone was sharp; he always had a beef with Aidan.
Aidan had refused to marry Phoebe before, and now he was cool with her staying with him. Craig really didn't get what Aidan was thinking, which left him with a bad impression of the guy.
Phoebe knew Craig was pissed but still stood her ground. "I'm fine here; you don't need to worry."
"Are you sure? He hasn't married you yet, but you're living with him." Craig was fuming.
"It's no big deal," Phoebe said.
Craig was about to blow a gasket. "You're devaluing yourself!"
The Irvine family had climbed up to be one of the top ten families in Golombia, and as an Irvine daughter, Phoebe was now way out of Aidan's league.
Yet, Phoebe not only refused to distance herself from Aidan but chose to live with him despite him not marrying her.
"Craig, I'm just an ordinary person." No matter how well the Irvine family did, it had nothing to do with her. She never mentioned her connection to the Irvine family when talking to others.
Craig said, "You're now a daughter of the Irvine family."
"Craig, the Irvine family has countless daughters; there are many more who would gladly take on that title," she remarked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Her father had many faults, but he did have a lot of kids. The Irvine clan was huge, and without Craig's smarts, who knows what state the family would be in today?
