Chapter 474 You Have No Credit With Me

The sound of brakes filled the air as the car stopped by the roadside. Just as Evelyn was about to ask what was happening, she saw Dermot looking at her intently.

That look… it seemed a bit hurt.

Hurt?

Who had caused hurt to whom?

"Evelyn, is this what you think of me?" Dermot finally asked after a while, his voice filled with indescribable sadness.

Evelyn felt a discomfort in her chest but still managed to smile,"To tell you the truth, Dermot, you indeed have no credit with me right now."

Dermot gave a bitter smile, knowing all this was his own doing,"I'm sorry…"

"You need not offer me any apologies. Even if your initial motives held ulterior undertones, they do not trouble me. The sincerity of your kindness towards me was genuine, and it did bring me moments of joy," she uttered, gazing at him with a smile.
However, those words pierced through Dermot's heart like a knife, inflicting profound anguish upon him.

"Evey…"

"Let's drive home, it's getting late," Evelyn withdrew her gaze, no longer looking at Dermot, and once again turned to the window, seemingly not wanting to continue the conversation.

Dermot felt helpless; he didn't know how to explain, especially since he had known all along and hadn't told Evelyn.

The car started again, and soon they arrived at the apartment. They both walked into the elevator, one after the other, neither speaking.

Soon, Evelyn reached her apartment door. Dermot felt that if he didn't say something now, she would really leave.

"Evey," he called out to her.

Evelyn turned around, her eyes questioning.

"I like you, and it has nothing to do with your identity. Sometimes I even wish you were just an ordinary person. Maybe things would be simpler that way," he said with a bitter smile and a touch of helplessness.

If Evelyn were just an ordinary person, then his liking for her would be simple, no one else could stop it.

But once she wasn't an ordinary person, being together became much more difficult.

Evelyn gazed at him, finding sincerity reflected in Dermot's eyes, yet she hesitated to embrace it fully. "Perhaps. In truth, it matters little to me who my biological parents are. What I truly desire is to unravel the mystery and uncover the truth."

In her heart, her family was still her grandfather Aidan Niall. As for her biological parents, she didn't care at all.

"I understand," Dermot nodded, knowing Evelyn meant what she said.

"Do you... believe me?" Dermot looked at her, his heart swayed by tumultuous emotions, afraid of not gaining Evelyn's trust.

Evelyn Marina said to him,"If you're truthful, why care whether others believe you or not? Isn't it enough to have a clear conscience?"

Dermot gave a wry smile. That sounded reasonable, but it's not easy to achieve. He didn't feel he had reached such a level of cultivation where he could be indifferent to others' feelings, especially when this 'other' was the Evelyn he cared about most.

Unfortunately, Evelyn had already entered her door, leaving Dermot standing there alone.

Inside, Evelyn lay on the couch, not wanting to move at all.

The truth she had been pursuing for so long was finally revealing itself, but she didn't feel as happy as she had imagined. She wished it was all false.

The Kyte family of Colombia meant nothing to her.

The phone rang at this moment, and despite her exhaustion, Evelyn still answered,"Aidan."

"Evelyn, Aidan will be coming back soon. What gift would you like? Aidan will bring it for you," the voice of Aidan on the other end was as gentle as ever, but unfortunately, Evelyn could no longer respond with the same happiness as before.

She remained silent, and Aidan immediately sensed something was wrong,"What's the matter? Did something happen?"
