Chapter 192 He Will Be Fine

"What are you all standing there for? Rescue him!" the village chief realized and shouted at the crowd.

Everyone started to help, moving rocks and debris to rescue Dermot.

In the rescue operation, there were too many rocks from the aftershocks, making it even more difficult for the collapsed classrooms to be cleared by the villagers' bare hands. A large machine was needed in such a situation.

Everyone stopped, except for Evelyn, who continued digging tirelessly, even with fresh blood streaming from her fingers. She seemed oblivious to the pain and persisted.

"Dr. Kyte, you..." the village chief approached, wanting to offer words of comfort but struggling to find the right words.

"He'll be fine," Evelyn said while digging. it was Dermot. How could anything happen to him?

No! It's impossible!

The village chief, unable to bear the sight, tried to reach out to her. "Dr. Kyte, in this situation, the chances of survival are very slim."

Ignoring whether the people underneath were crushed by rocks or not, even if they weren't without a machine, they couldn't rescue anyone. How much longer could he hold on?

"Village chief, I believe he'll be fine. Please, don't stop, keep rescuing people," Evelyn pleaded, looking at Dermot with intense emotion. She didn't understand why she was feeling so devastated to the point where tears were welling up in her eyes.

Moved by her plea, the village chief said. "Alright, I'll let everyone continue digging."

Although their capabilities were limited, they couldn't just do nothing.

"Dermot!"

Evelyn shouted, regardless of whether the people below could hear her or not. "Didn't you say you wanted to pursue me? As long as you come out alive, I'll give you a chance."

Her voice was loud, and the villagers glanced at her, teary-eyed.

When the satellite phone rang again, Evelyn felt as if she had grabbed a life jacket. She answered the call and shouted at Todd "Where are you guys? Did a heavy excavator come with you?"

Todd on the other end of the phone was stunned. He seemed to be witnessing Evelyn losing control for the first time. "Yes, it came."

"How much longer until you arrive?" Evelyn asked.

"We've reached the village entrance, but we don't know your exact location. That's why we called to ask." Willowbrook was neither large nor small, and searching blindly would be pointless and time-consuming. Naturally, Todd wanted to call first and inquire.

Evelyn's face lit up with joy. She turned to the village chief and said, "The rescue team is here, with the machines. Please, send someone to the village entrance to guide them."

"Okay." After saying that, the village chief instructed a young person to run towards the village entrance without wasting any time.

Evelyn watched the young person's figure as he departed and then looked back at the ground beneath her. She had shouted so loudly; Dermot would have heard...

Biting her lip, her heart grew heavy.

Dermot, please, please be alright!

At the village entrance, Todd and the people who came to pick them up met, and they learned about what had happened from the other party. Upon finding out that Dermot was buried underground, Todd was on the verge of losing his mind.

"You said that if something happens to you, how am I supposed to explain it to Grandpa Doyle?"

They quickened their pace and arrived at Willowbrook Elementary School soon. Without exchanging pleasantries with Evelyn, he went straight to ask, "Ms. Kyte, where is it?"

"Here!" Evelyn pointed to the collapsed hole.

Todd instructed the machine to come over, but Evelyn was anxious, "If they keep digging like this, won't it continue to collapse?"

"Don't worry, Ms. Kyte, they are all professionals," Todd reassured her.

She appeared calm, but in reality, she was nervous. She was afraid that she would not see a living Dermot later.
