Evelyn did not mince words with Dora. The intent behind their conversation was to belittle her, and she was not about to let it pass unchallenged. Unexpectedly, Blake, who had remained silent till now, interjected with a note of concern, "Although Dora's words may seem harsh, she is not entirely mistaken."A frown marred Evelyn's face, a sense of unease creeping in. There was something she was not seeing, some concealed truth she was yet to uncover."Recently, I've observed you growing quite close to Kevin. Keep quiet.""You!" Dora was livid, finding Evelyn's attitude utterly repugnant.Just as she was about to retort, a warning glance from Blake silenced her. "Evelyn, I understand your anger towards me, but don't risk your happiness," he implored."You're divorced from Dermot, which is proof enough that you two aren't meant to be. Why persist? The world isn't devoid of men."Setting down her fork, Evelyn found her appetite had vanished. "You're overthinking it. I'm not with Dermot. I'm upset because I don't like others interfering in my affairs.""And even if I were with him, it would be my decision and no one else's business."'No one can control my love life,' she thought.
